Hello, does  anybody recommend a hair salon in Jackson Heights that can handle curly/wavy long hair without using any blow drying? any input would be really helpful!

curly hair without blow drying means heat lamps.  unfortunately, you'll just have to call around and see which salon has them.  I'm sure some do have them, I just don't know off hand.
First, do no harm.

Where is a clean a good nail salon?
« Reply #48 on: January 06, 2010, 08:09:06 PM »
BEWARE of SUZANN'S Nail Salon on 81st and 37th ave. I went there on Monday Jan 4 and had the worst manicure and pedicure. The place was dirty. The person who did my nails had dirty hair and nails. She did not understand a word of English. She hurt me and did not know what she was doing! The nail file looked old and used and the nail clippers where dull! Can anyone recommend a place in the neighborhood that does a good job? I would prefer to support my neighborhood shops.  :)

Hi,

You may want to speak directly with the owner of SUZANN'S Nail Salon about your experience.

I recommend 78 Nails Spa on 78th Street closer to 37th Avenue (718) 803-0280.

Best,   :smiley6600:

Yes I can recommend a salon, but you need to make an appointment. Esthetiques at Shear Success, 84-24 37th avenue. 718-478-3258. Closed Sunday/Monday. Ask for appt. with Yola. Her pedicures are amazing as well as manicures/waxing/facials.

Manicures/Pedicures/Facials/Haircuts etc. in the area
« Reply #52 on: June 21, 2010, 06:59:17 PM »
I did a search on this topic and it brought up really old results.  I thought it would be nice to start a new thread for people to post their opinions on where to go and where avoid as far as beauty treatments in the area.

Here's my very limited list of experiences... (Note: I'm SHY so if a place is really crowded I'd usually just walk by instead of going in and asking about wait time etc.  If someone can recommend some great spots I will try to get over it. lol!!) Also - I bite my nails so I personally skip manicures. haha.

Pedicures -
I've only been to 78 Nail & Spa in this hood.  I've gone about 4 times and had someone different each time.  I really really like the sander - but I really hate that every single time I go there are 3-4 people in front of me and then on top of that someone comes in and has an appointment.  It takes forever. (I'd make an appt - but I don't "love" any of them"  Also when you walk in, nobody acknowledges your presence AT ALL - no greeting, no nothing.

Facials-
I've been to the place on 37th Ave & 80th (mostly does threading) for their facials.  It's no frills, but cheap.  I prefer when one of the older women does the facial - but I feel it would be rude to say so, so I just deal with whoever.  The last time I went, the girl annoyed me and I haven't been back.  So... I'm looking for other options. :)

Threading-
The place on 37th & 80th is fine for this.  It's much cheaper than in Manhattan.

I used to go to Dulhan on B'way across from the Korean market.  I wasn't a fan of their threading, but the facials were nice.

Pedicures

The ladies at 78th Nail Spa do a lovely job.  I drop in, ask how long, and tell them I'm going to grab something and then return.  They'll hold my spot.

Facials

Million Minks on Roosevelt and 79th/80th is great for facials.   ::)

Mani Pedi- I've been to Spa Bellagio on Roosevelt and they were very good and very nice. I also recently went to Angel Nails in the Walbaum's shopping center, and they were small, but they did a decent job :)

Yay - thanks for adding some leads! :)

I forgot to mention in my original post - has ANYBODY been to that new place Tsering on 37th Ave between 74th/75th.  My bf and I walked by when they had their "Grand Opening" party, but every single time I walk by during business hours (lots!) it's completely empty and the workers are staring at the door in desperation.  I'm thinking that nobody is going because the PRICES ARE STUPID.  $20 for a pedi?  when you can get one for $16 a few blocks away?

That same day I walked pretty far (looking for a place with no line and a reasonable price) - every single other place had a line.   Maybe if their prices come down in line with the other neighborhood places, people will go - just a thought. haha!

DIVA's want it all.  Attention when we walk into the salon, no waiting period, inexpensive prices, complete massage, lovely music playing in the background, tea served (not too hot), no female chatter in the background, light salad served after treatment, and the limo waiting outside.  LOL.

I know, as I'm a true DIVA, but I may have to hand you my DIAMOND TIARA!!  I think it's time!!!   ::)

Wow, I guess you totally misunderstood me.

I hope you're joking.  I'm about as low maintenance as you get.  Excuse me if I want to be noticed if I walk in the door to an establishment?????

Sorry - I wasn't finished.

Marlene -WTF is this crap anyway?

I really don't appreciate your hurtful and absolutely undeserved comments towards me personally and I won't stand for them.  If you want to talk about the TOPIC without attacking me - fine. Otherwise GTFO.

I never insinuated that I expect those things.  Go roll your eyes elsewhere.  And maybe stop Private Messaging people so you can protect Hiram Monserrate.  That was really freaking annoying, if you want to know.  Why don't you publicly kiss his ass?
