Another vote against Suzanne's on 81st and 37th avenue.  This place is so dirty and unsanitary.  She has the women who work for her (who are terrified of her, by the way) eat in the bathroom, which is also the same room that they do the waxing.  Ew! I'm never going back and am lodging a complaint with the health department.  I told the owner that this is exactly what I was going to do and she had no response. I just hope that my technician didn't get in trouble because of my comments to her.  God knows what abuse they endure privately, if she is happy to have them freely eat in a bathroom!

Keep an eye on the nail salon located on the corner of 81st and 37th Avenue.  I had a mani/pedi a few months ago and the lady taking care of me told me she had to eat her lunch in the bathroom.  She then asked for a new nail file and the owner called her outside.  She returned to tell me that he had reprimanded her for asking for a new file as she had received one the day before.  She as well told me that she is timed and can't go beyond 30-45 minutes for the mani/pedi.  After hearing this, I told the owner that I believed his behavior was somewhat abusive.  I'll let the ladies fight their battle.  I'm not going to do it for them.  I tried.  Perhaps others on this forum can get a better handle on how the ladies are being treated in that establishment by stopping by sometime. God bless them!

I might have asked before but is there any place that someone can recommend for a decent, low-price blowout?

Also, I used to frequent the nail salon on 73rd near northern boulevard (I forget the name but it is right across the street from the bus stop) but have stopped going because the owner is so mean to her workers.  Every few weeks, there were new ladies working there.  They all always looked sad and I once heard the owner telling a young girl who worked there that she could only take her lunch break after five hours of work.  I asked some workers why other people left and they always looked uncomfortable and said that it was really hard to work with that owner.  Also, two of the workers I talked to told me that they were working there pro bono for a month because the owner had promised them that once they went through "training" they could have their own mani/pedi chair.  Of course, once the month passed those workers disappeared.  I feel bad and want to do something but so far, the only action I have taken is to stop going there.

Was wondering if they do hair for men.

Yes, I've seen lots of men in there....it's a nicely mixed clientele. And the nail services are much more careful and long-lasting than other spots I've found in JH...quality all around!

Nail salons are all over the place, yet it's so hard to decide where to go. I'm in need of a recommendation for a salon in Jackson Heights that does mani/pedi and acrylic nail fill-in's. Cleanliness is my first priority.  Thanks!
