I was just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with Nail 37.  They're located on 80-08 37th avenue.

Apparently, this has happened to other people in my building and worse.  One girl told me she got foot fungus from there.  We're not going back there.  She's trying to report them to the Dept. of Health.  Any suggestions for nicer and cleaner salons in the area?  Thanks.

Never really liked Nail 37.  Pretty easy to get foot fungus from any place which is why it's better to buy your own supplies and let them use them on you only.  Read from the top of this thread and you'll see peoples' recommendations.
First, do no harm.

I had a great experience at Ingrid's (the new big one on the corner).  I walked in, they were able to fit me in, and the wash, cut and blow out were around $35!!!  I forget the name of the person who cut my hair, but I was at the station right in front of the window...  My hairdresser was transgendered - everyone used the male pronoun, but he was dressed as a woman.  I wish I could remember his name - it was a really good haircut.

I have an unfortunate update...  I went back to Ingrid's  last weekend for a cut and had a terrible experience.  I wanted to take off more hair than the last time (4-5 inches) and it came out terribly.  I called Monday morning to say I wanted to come back in, and though they gave me a hard time, the owner agreed.  I went back Thursday and was treated like an inconvenience, only to get an even worse haircut.  It looks just awful.  So, I think this place is great for a last minute trim or a blowout, but I'd suggest you go somewhere else if you want a new cut/style.

I just tried Gulzar (corner of 74th and Roosevelt) -- my first eyebrow threading experience -- and loved it. I am a total convert to the threading way. Wax be gone.

And then I went for a mani/pedi at Spa Bellagio -- and I'm pretty sure that'll end up being a regular place for me. The woman who did my nails, LiLi, was so nice and did a fantastic job. The place is a drop run down but it's very clean. And they have a $20 mani/pedi special on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Oops, sorry! Fingers didn't type what brain was thinking -- it's Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But still a dandy price...

What freaks me out about threading is that the thread is in the beauticians mouth, can that be hygienic  :o?

Angel Nail Spa -They have the most Amazing massage chairs (only a few months old) while getting a pedicure.  Happy hour manicure and pedicure is only $15.  Heck, I would pay that just for the massage chair... ;).  I'm a guy so I'm less maintenance than most of you gals but I still go every two weeks and I'm happy with their work (most of the time)

3rd vote for Maria from Spain at Charles Unisex hairstylist on 86th street and 37th ave. The woman has been cutting and coloring my hair forever and she is amazing!!! She always knows exactly what I want...she knows hair and people and is an angel of a woman!!!  After years of torturing my hair myself I always go back to Maria and she leaves me picture perfect!!!!!

To all,
Keep an eye on the nail salon located on the corner of 81st and 37th Avenue.  I had a mani/pedi a few months ago and the lady taking care of me told me she had to eat her lunch in the bathroom.  She then asked for a new nail file and the owner called her outside.  She returned to tell me that he had reprimanded her for asking for a new file as she had received one the day before.  She as well told me that she is timed and can't go beyond 30-45 minutes for the mani/pedi.  After hearing this, I told the owner that I believed his behavior was somewhat abusive.  I'll let the ladies fight their battle.  I'm not going to do it for them.  I tried.  Perhaps others on this forum can get a better handle on how the ladies are being treated in that establishment by stopping by sometime. God bless them!

Can anyone recommend a good eyebrow threader?  The last time I had my eyebrows threaded, my forehead broke out in a rash.  I'm wonder if this has to do with the method itself or if my skin is just super sensitive.  Anyone ever have a post reaction to threading?

I've gotten it done at the place on 37th Ave & 80th a few times (also a thrifty facial!).  I'm not sure what could cause a reaction since they only use thread.  Maybe the lotion they sometimes put on when finished threading?

I've been getting mine threaded for years and it's amazing how the pain level can vary depending on the person threading.  :/

Nail 37 is bad.  The owner cut me really bad one time and put this antiseptic on my finger that burned like hell and didn't even apologize.  God, lets hope I didn't catch anything.  Will never go back.

Sadly, I think the neighborhood nail saloons are awful.  I have tried every single one and they are all dirty, crowded and I can never relax completely.

Just went to Eve salon in Astoria which is clean, super relaxed, brand new and wonderfully soothing.  In addition, really, really cheap.  It would be great if Jackson Heights nail salons could take notice.

i actually really like 78 Nail salon, just off 37 ave....it can get cramped, but it's clean -- both to the eye and in terms of hygiene -- and there's very little staff turnover, so the ladies get to know you and your likes.

Million Minks gives a fantastic facial.  Located on Roosevelt (between 78th and 79th Street).
