AmazingJason I couldn't agree more.  It seems in JH in particular there are so many places I want to love but am let down by their mediocrity, or worse.

The now defunct Novo, crepe place, falafel bodega, and pizza on a neighborhood wide scale, all come to mind

But, on the flipside, when it comes to certain ethnic cuisine, we represent.

When I lived in Taiwan, my boss took me out to a fancy restaurant that had English translations in the menu.  The translations were insane and I was trying so hard not to lose it. I stole the menu. My favorites are:  "big flavor pig livings bowel", "miscellaneous chicken germs","strange flavor of insides", and"plaster with ginger juice".

I have a feeling Okawa is next to bite the dust. I passed by one recent Friday or Saturday night and it was completely empty. The exterior is a travesty; the windows were actually dirty. Plus the overpriced food that's on the level of East 21 Boy (which I love, but as a takeout place).

Amazingjason,  once again I think you're spot on. I actually like Okawas food, and have been recently wanting to tell them that people are probably not going to go to a sushi place if their windows are so dirty. But, they really should know that already. Such a simple thing to do.

Okawa's exterior is pretty awful, but it's still solid in terms of sushi (never tried their cooked food). they get solid "A" ratings from the DOH, which is really important to me when it comes to sushi, but even more importantly, the fish tastes frsh and clean. hope they stick around.

Maybe you should give them feedback about the glass.  It might help them stay in business.

Also just wondering how much business restaurants normally do on sites like Seamless.  In the case of Seamless, the person ordering would have no idea what the restaurant windows look like.

I like the name Emoji Burger but I like fatty burgers, not dry burgers.

Hopefully this place is good, unlike the crepes place. Something I never understood is why someone would open up a restaurant, but serve mediocre or average food. You figure you could at the very least copy someone else's recipes. My friend said that people just want to open up businesses without having the knowledge and skills to actually run a successful one, which is perhaps true. Both Emoji and Swim Two Birds have a ton of potential though.

That you are right sonogold.  1st time I ordered there I asked for a turkey, avocado and swiss, no bacon and they threw in bacon.  Third time we asked for banana and nutella, and got strawberry and nutella.  Both times I was the only customer.  There was no fourth time.  I just don't get it.

You may be right Chuckster. Last night when I was walking by I saw the owner, or who I think is the owner, of just made 4 you talking to the construction guys at Emoji burger.

I just assumed he was being neighborly, but coupled with the Instagram photos, the places may be related.

good to know emoji burger has connection to Just Made 4 U.
They were slow to start but seem to be able to get it right.

As far as Okawa, I too was hesitant to eat in based on the window and looking unappealing inside.  I recently ventured in for the lunch special (sushi rolls) and was pleasantly surprised by the quality.  Its' not my sushi place for delivery.  Not sure why the Japanese places here do not do better on decor. Live fish aquariums like the one at Tomo are a deal breaker.
