There wasn't any. But I support the local officials who gave the warning. There was a similar threat for Queens Center Mall a week ago, and a large group of would-be looters did show up for that.

There are people who are blaming the elected officials for sending out the warning. If the looting had happened and people found out after the fact the officials had received intel and didn't disseminate it to anyone, all the same people who right now are upset about officials sending out fake news would then be the first to blame the officials for not sending out the warning.

It would be really great if people could take a moment to think carefully before starting the blame game.

Here's an article about the would-be loot out at Queens Mall https://nypost.com/2020/06/01/group-of-wanna-be-looters-strike-out-at-queens-mall/

Dozens of people apparently attempted to burglarize a Queens shopping center Monday afternoon after a social media user called for a “loot out,” video of the incident shows.

But stores and restaurants boarded up their windows after learning of the post that called for looting at the Queens Center Mall at 1 p.m.

The video posted on Reddit shows the throngs walking around apparently looking for a place to break in. At one point, some of the wanna-be looters try to lift up a roll-down gate, to no avail.

Covid, deaths, riots, looting, curfews, much of the city boarded up and closed down like a war zone, masks, distancing, endless lines in stores, economic recession...

They'll be writing about 2020, the NYC Summer from Hell for a long, long time.

Whoever put out this "warning" should be held accountable.  Where did this warning come from and was it verified. True it is better safe than sorry but  there should have been validity to the claim.  Did the police/political leadership verify this threat? If so, wouldn't there have been extra security put in place, because I saw none.  The business owners have now shuttered there livelihood in what would have been a respite …... an opening after the shutter in place.  This can't be good for businesses who are trying to survive.

i agree that the person should be held accountable -- this is no different than making a false 911 call. that's a crime, but it's rarely prosecuted.

as far as businesses, most weren't opened yet, at least not legally. restaurants, yes, but businesses aren't allowed to open until Monday the 8th, and that for curbside only.

This article is very stupid.  The looting might have been planned but didn't happen since it got out into the public and the police and community were ready for any possibly looting.  We will never know for sure but better to play it safe.

acting on every single online rumor is going to run everyone ragged, particularly cops.

We don't know they are acting on every single online rumor. Maybe they received reports of 100 rumors and only acted on the one they thought was valid.

It is a good thing that the neighborhood was warned/prepared, even if nothing happened

Just look at what happened in the Bronx... it wasn't just looting but shop owners being chased and beaten
