If they touch my okra at any of the local Indian supermarkets, I guarantee they will be in slimy trouble. These are hard workers who keep the doors open so we are fed us during the pandemic. These cowards are biting the hands who feed them.

You put perceived threat in quotes as though it came out of thin air. This threat alert came from Catalina Cruz and others https://www.facebook.com/CatalinaCruzNY/posts/783939152142178

If the threat is creditable then it requires a response to protect lives and property which is the primary responsibility of the police to preserve civil order. Is there an alternative?

Cruz and others did not say where they heard the threat. Did they hear about the threat from the police?
I did not mean there was not  threat. I meant that this is what Cruz said.

Where people out in the street last night in JH? Maybe the police did not like that.

Metal grates have all been pulled down.

Thankfully bunches of immigrant young men are on the look-out to stop any potential looters.

Certainly no BLACK LIVES MATTER protesters.

Only NO LOOTING vigilantes.

It's come to this.

Black Lives Matter would be welcome. the organization makes the world a better place.

thankful there are no looters. and no "very fine people."

The message here, on the street, in Jackson Heights is no longer BLACK LIVES MATTER.

It is NO LOOTING.

The BLACK LIVES MATTER people have had their (very valid) message hijacked by the looters.

No they haven't. The loud minority of right wing bullies has conflated them and tried to make it so people don't see the difference.

Unfortunately, the case is no-one is mentioning BLACK LIVES MATTER on the street today in Jackson Heights. The only message out there is NO LOOTING.

we agree on both of those. support of BLM is in evidence at the 8 PM 34th avenue shoutout most nights, though.

Why is it “unfortunate?” People hear a threat the the peaceful neighborhood so that is the focus today.  I one is discrediting BLM or thinking they are the looters.

Was just out on 37th Avenue and there were literally people out there with signs supporting BLM and telling looters to stay away. Not conflicting messages. The same message.

Ramos posted more info on her twitter feed. Apparently the threat was (still is?) for Junction Boulevard

Well now, that these businesses on 37th ave have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect themselves from The fake news of a impending rumor of a loot out. Who is responsible for this fear mongering?

Disinformation is a standard tactic to cause diversions. Looters do not generally let their plans be known, and the amount of publicity this got in the media may have convinced anyone actually planning to loot the neighborhood to change their plans. Or simple terror may have been the real agenda. You don't have to actually injure anyone to terrorize them.

Danny Dromm's office responded to my building's query about the "loot-out," saying that it was suspected to be a hoax meant to turn public opinion against lawful protesters.

Either Jessica Ramos or Catalina Cruz responded this morning by saying the information was culled from a single social media post. Just one post threw an entire section of the city into abject panic. If this is what lies ahead, we're in for a bumpy 20 years.
