Parking
« on: November 01, 2007, 08:16:04 PM »
As I was walking on 76th Street today, I passed Jackson Towers between 37th and Roosevelt and happened to notice a sign posted in a first floor apartment window that said "garage for rent" with a phone number 718-426-4677.  I saw this today, Nov. 1.  If you're looking for garage space in the area, you might want to go take a look and see if the sign is still up.  I know garage spaces are hard to find.

What are the parking options in Jackson Heights?  There is a garage at 82nd Street and 37th Avenue but the price with taxes included is $300.  You don't even get your own spot the attendant parks and retrieves your car so with tips it will cost you even more than that.

I know someone who rents a space from the garage in a nearby coop building (not her own), but I'm not sure how she got this space.

Also in my walks around the neighborhood I have seen handwritten signs posted on the windows of houses or apartments advertising what might be a private driveway space.  I recently posted one in the classified section that I saw on an apartment building on 76th St.  I also saw another sign in Elmhurst a few weeks ago just across Roosevelt Ave on either Gleane or Forley on the right hand side just after you cross Roosevelt.

Since it's time consuming to pound the pavement, I will write down info when I come across it from now on and post it in the classifieds - if it would be some help to people.

Shelby, that would be great.  We live in the 80s and there are rarely any ads out there.

Garage Spots
« Reply #4 on: November 26, 2007, 08:59:40 AM »
I'm interested in renting a garage spot, but I have no idea how this process works. Can anyone provide some input on where to look for rentals? Also is it possible to rent month to month and, on average, what does an spot cost per month? I'm located on 35th ave and 84th street and my building does not have a garage.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- JD

Saw another "garage for rent" sign on 79th St.  between Roosevelt and 37th Ave, a few doors up from Arunee Thai.  This was today, Dec. 8, 2007.

:embarassed:  OMG, this is the main reason I signed up to this forum..... PARKING!  I was searching Craigslist to no avail.  I desperately want to find a private garage.  My building has one but I'm on a waiting list and I might be dead by the time one becomes available.  :-\

My car has been victimized twice in the last few months and it's just not worth it anymore.

So if anyone knows where I can find or inquire about garage space, please PM me!

Thanks.  ;)

EDIT:  By the way, I live around 35th Ave. in the 80s.  So preferably in that area would be ideal.

86th and Roosevelt parking lot is 24/7 but they want $200 per month. I get the feeling you could negotiate the price down a little with them. Since I moved here in August I haven't really had much problems aside from the fliers. Even parking itself is easier than Astoria was since I only have to move the car once a week.

Thanks for the info!  ;)

I've just had a run of bad luck lately.  In the summer, some jerk threw a cement block thru my car window.  Then, this past weekend someone side-swiped my car (I was parked on 34th ave) and I'm guessing it might have been due to bad weather.  Still.   It was pretty bad and it's gonna cost like $5000 to fix, luckily my insurance will cover the majority.     :( :(  My poor car is taking a pounding.

My building has a spot available.  86-11 34th Ave., entrance on 86th Street.  $175 a month (plus security deposit) plus one time fee for electric garage door opener.

I'm the co-op president and we usually don't have a spot since there's usually a waiting list.  This is a rare occurrence.

My Co-op and the four next to us all have underground parking garages that outsiders (meaning you don't live in the Co-op) can rent monthly.

My building has one spot vacant right now. 86-11 34th Ave.

Sorry I posted without prices:  Our building charges $175 a month plus one month's Security Deposit.  You get back your Security if you leave giving one month's notice.  $50 for an electronic remote garage door opener and $5 for a key to the opposite side door.  I'm pretty sure the buildings next door are competitive with these prices.  Also there are always vacancies and a waiting list.  Once in awhile, like now, a spot opens and there's no waiting list.
