rachel, just for your information, I have a friend who lives in the building on 34th Ave. and 73rd/74th Street.  He always finds on street parking around there.  The only problem days are the two street cleaning days.  But it's not bad.

You should sell your car.  The subway is a ten minute walk, and then express to Manhattan.  Save a lot of money and frustration.
Your neighbors will appreciate it too!

BG- Don't have the option of selling my car.  I need it for work which is not subway or bus accessible. So that isn't going to happen, sorry!

Agree with Buddy... Street parking is generally not a problem.

If you still want a parking space, there are usually signs up in the semi attached houses on 72rd or 73rd street between 34th & 35th ave.  They usually are renting spots behind their house.  :)   :)

Why will the neighbors appreciate it?  The subway is not convenient to a lot of people.  I travel some place different every day for work.  Anyway I don't really want to get into the pros and cons of having a car.  But if someone is looking for a parking spot, the answer isn't "sell your car".  Your response isn't remotely helpful or polite.

Rachel, if you have time to walk around, you'll see signs by people who have spots for rent.

I used to live on that block and we parked for a few years at the lot on Roosevelt b/w 78 & 79. Your car will get dirty from being under the 7 and they have to maneuver it in and out for you (open 24 hours as far as I recall). I had considered renting a private garage but the alleyways seemed kind of sketchy to me.  After a while, we realized that our "failure rate" (as measured in parking tickets) was less than the monthly parking rate, so we stopped paying for parking and just paid tickets here and there. I am not sure how much the lot is now, because I haven't parked there since 2005 and the rates have gone up.  Also, you will probably not have that much trouble parking if you use your car every day and are not parked during alternate side of the street parking anyway.

Hello Folks, First Post Right Here!

My wife and I are in the process of buying a car and would love to find a garage in a building near 79th and 35th Ave.  Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Every week there have been flyers on the cars (at least along 77th Street). Just walk down the street and grab one from one of the cars. This week they were yellow. I think they might use a different color each week.

Thanks for the reply,

We are trying to stay away from that typical garage and hoping to get lucky and have a "spot" in a apartment building garage instead.  Calling every time we needed the car to be pulled out seems like a bit much and would feel more comfortable in an apt building garage.  Too bad we couldn't think ahead and get a coop apt with a garage when we moved here a few months back  ;D  I also called the garage and they said it would be $300 month for a new vehicle which is ridiculous.

Does anyone know the name or number of the management company of the apartment building with garage at 79-10 35th ave?  That would be the ideal!  Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Don't know but if they have a Super living on site (and they probably do), take a walk over, ring the bell and in my building it's the Super who gives out the garage spots.  It might be that easy.

We have a spot coming up in our garage again.  The person who was next on the list already found something else so they're going to the next guy.  If he's not interested, it's up for grabs.

Another car should be leaving in about a month.

Same deal: see the Super.  (read up the thread if you don't know where it is.)
