that's bad. but it sounds like things that could be remedied. i hope they can do so. and i hope the staff learns how to help customers who need it.

@dssjh, Thank you. I feel the same.

Hey, you are in a perfect situation to teach folks about how to make things better for the disabled.  So, don't get mad...rather, educate us! Teach restaurants and others who have had little contact with the disabled world about what is necessary. I believe that's the positive, pro-active solution. I don't think anyone is inherently anti-disabled.  I'd say people are simply unaware of the needs of the disabled.  But the beauty of humanity...is that we can learn!

Just stopped by and got some chicken soup--delicious! It looks like a great menu--a really exciting addition to the neighborhood. They seem to be just getting on their feet, so I'm sure things will improve re:responsiveness of staff. But the issue should be brought to their attention, for sure. It just seems like the staff is inexperienced, at least I got that feeling.

Today was  my first time, and I will be returning. Was very happy, that they are serving, coffee, and lattes, and it was high quality coffee.
I spoke with the owner who is passionate about offering healthy, clean food. I ordered the overnite oats, generous portion, and very good.

I told him to be sure to advertise the fact about the coffee , as we have so few options for that.
I am almost certain this place will be a success.

This neighborhood has some of the most ridiculous names for restaurants ever:

-Just Made 4 U
-Oceanic Boil
-Emoji Burger

and now...

-Fresh Spi'L't Milk

LOLZZZ

Anyway, wondering if they have gluten-free sandwich options?

Went today. TRULY delicious high quality inventive salad (get the brussels/kale!). Best the neighborhood has IMHO.

The Astoria mini chains, Lockwood, Sacs and now this appear to have a winning formula - work out the kinks in Astoria, then take their experience to JH spaces that need minimal adjustment/building work. Allows a quick opening.....and a good neighborhood addition.

@abcdefghijk Thank you. I tried this for three years. I had a blog about it, and I actively tried to educate restaurants with seminars for all of that time. I only had one restaurant take me up on it. The rest did not, and I solicited 100+ restaurants.

Hey, TDF, would you post the name and location of the ONE restaurant that took action to accommodate you, please.

I tried the steel cut oatmeal with bananas and almonds on a recent visit... Delicious!  The staff was friendly, and the owner promised to have soy milk available after I explained that I prefer the flavor of soy milk in my coffee over almond milk.  That said, I'm sorry to read about the negative experience had by The Disabled Foodie.  I'm hoping this important issue is resolved soon, making Fresh Spilt Milk accessible to all.

I got a really delicious salad there today and they were very accommodating and careful about my nut allergy. I hope they stick around a while as I'm looking forward to trying quite a few things on their menu.
That said, I'm very disappointed to hear about @thedisabledfoodie's experience. The next time I go in, I'll ask for a manager (or their contact information) and ask about getting the ramp and door issues addressed soon so it's accessible to everyone in the neighborhood. Maybe if a few of us bring it up they will act quickly to remedy this.

Jeanette, It was Shake Shack. Danny Meyer (owner) has a background in hospitality, so he knows accessibility and actively looks to improve it. I helped the staff at the locations on the Upper West Side (near Museum of Natural History), Times Square (8th Avenue), and TriBeCa.

The menu is very close to this, its sister location in Astoria.  The JH location also has soups and salads.

The JH location also has soups and salads.

According to their menu, the soup options are:

Chicken Noodle
Chicken Vegetable
Black & Pinto Bean
Broccoli Cheddar
Split Pea
Lentil
Tomato

BTW, the menu states that soups are served with toasted bread ($4.75).
