Councilman Monserrate Announces

EMERGENCY Public Safety Town Hall

The tragic incident that occurred over the weekend on Roosevelt Avenue
and 80th Street in Jackson Heights, where five individuals were shot,
four of which were innocent bystanders is a stark reminder of how
important police resources are to our community.    The Administration
theme, "Do More with Less" is not consistent with the public safety
needs of our City or our local community. Please join us in a community dialogue
with elected officials, representatives of the NYPD and community groups on this important topic.

In attendance will be:

Council Member Hiram Monserrate
Assembly Member Jose Peralta
Council Member Helen Sears
Assembly Member Ivan Lafayette
Representatives of the NYPD
and other Community Leaders

Date:                       Thursday May 29, 2008
Location:                  Jewish Center of Jackson Heights
                               37-06 77th Street, Jackson Heights
Time:                       7:00pm – 9:00pm

For more information, please call: 718 205-3881

Still interested to know what happened at the meeting on Thursday.  I work in the evenings and was not able to attend.  I was wondering if anything had gotten accomplished.

Well the guys pushin' the hookers are still on the streets.

I'm not saying that the cops and the politicians didn't do anything, but I want to know what they DID do...

I support cops cuz they're job is real real tough.

I remember I posted this forum a while back (maybe another thread)

so like besides posturing, what DID happen to clean things up on Roosevelt Ave.?

where the guilty parties ever apprehended?

Two arrests... maybe gang related:

Roosevelt Ave is still pretty much the same, change will take time, fortunately incidents like this are rare for the neighborhood so it's still safe, but still not so pretty.
