I almost can't believe this but a Blink Fitness appears to be set to open in Jackson Heights!  I can't find any other info than this page but woah!  We're actually getting a gym!  http://www.blinkfitness.com/Locations/Club/roosevelt

This is great news!  They get good reviews on yelp for their other locations.

HOLY MOZES. I thought this never would happen. Any idea when the place will open?

No idea.  I'm in total shock here myself.  Someone must have heard my prayers.  I'm going to walk by the site later today and see if there are any signs that this is even for real or someone's playing an evil joke.

the address listed is 78-02 Roosevelt.  From the photos on the website it appears they took over the existing gym space on Roosevelt and did a major remodeling. Finally.  They are a sub division of Equinox.

Via the URL to their website (thank you, Daisy) I sent of an email requesting info on possible opening date.

I am just slack-jawed over this. An actual GYM. In our NABE. Within decent WALKING distance.

•• UPDATE •• UPDATE •• UPDATE ••

Agents D and R reporting.

Currently the Blink site is the 10-year-old Executive Gym. We stopped in around noon today, conversed with the general manager and the clerk at the front desk. They knew nothing about a change of ownership, nothing at all about Blink. Didn’t know what we were talking about.

At the corner of 78th and Roosevelt a person was handing out flyers, advertising a $200/year membership to Executive.

Either:
Blink has jumped the gun by posting their website – or –
The change of ownership is not yet known to the current employees of Executive – or –
Someone, somewhere, doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

End of report.

Thank you Agent David.  How odd.  My guess is that that the employees don't know yet (maybe they are going to lose their jobs and their boss hasn't broken it to them?)

I really hope we get a good gym - especially at such a convenient address.

It looks like Blink Fitness is looking to open a few locations... Astoria, in addition to Jackson Heights.

From DNAinfo:

eek!  So my excitement is premature at best.  Even if they did buy it, they'd still have to do a lot of renovation to be on par with what Blink advertises.  Which would take time.  Still, a girl can hope!!!  This area needs a decent gym so bad.

Even though we asked and received question-mark looks in response, my guess is that we will not be the only ones to ask. The handsome Blink website it out there, and people in our area will surely see it. So whether from us or from others, those Executive employees will find out what’s going on sooner or later...

Believe me, we to are hoping for a great gym in the area! I looked up the Yelp reviews for Blink Fitness in the NYC area, and was delighted to find the majority of them overwhelmingly positive.

It's not uncommon for the owner of a business to withhold closure information from their staff for as long as possible, the thinking being that those that are aware of their impending unemployment will start looting. So, I wouldn't doubt that the lease deal is signed by Blink simply because the staff of the existing gym is unaware. Or was unaware, as they have now been tipped off.

Build-out for a gym would take no more than 14 weeks, could be weeks faster if it is just cosmetic (i.e. if showers and toilets are remaining in place, but locker rooms are receiving new tile and a fresh coat of paint).

It looks like Blink will substantially reduce the hours the gym is open if it takes over Executive Fitness based on hours listed on their web site

the early weekend closing is odd, but 18 hours a day seems decent to me for mon-fri.
