In the last month 37th Ave and 80 Street has become a hangout for a large group of young people that goes into 2am.  I called 911 as requested because there were around 15 people of both sexes.  I am not sure if the cops dispersed them or they just left.   The next night the same thing.  When I called the 911 person said, " oh you're the guy who called last night".

I think I even saw an exposed ankle on a woman!  I clutched my pearls and then I swooned and fainted in horror.

just kidding, buzz - I know how maddening it is to have people hanging out under your window late at night.

With all the police manpower.... Or waste of it ....working for the multiple parades we have, I wish we were able to get extra police patrolling in our neighborhood. I'm so sick of seeing cops on their cell phones being paid double time for doing nothing. I found it unnerving when I read on another thread how a police officer blantantly threw his garbage out the window.I'm equally perturbed by the shear number of parades we have and the inconviences it causes the residents. The money wasted should be used to place extra cops on the street and to properly train them . And I'm no talking groups of rookies which are less than useless.

Two cops arrested for taking bribes
NY Post
September 19, 2013

Two off-duty police officers were arrested in Queens for selling accident reports in an alleged insurance scam, authorities said.
Police Officers Roberto Espinal, 44, and Danny Cano, 37, were cuffed Wednesday in separate incidents and slapped with charges of public servant receiving bribe and official misconduct. Espinal was also charged with receiving reward for official misconduct.

The officers are said to have accepted cash payments ranging from $40 to $1,500 for copies of official NYPD accident reports, officials said.

Cano, assigned to the 115 Precinct, allegedly sold the reports to “runners,” who would then find accident victims and bring them to certain clinics and physicians as part of a larger insurance fraud scheme. He is said to have made around $6,200 for his part in the scam.

These are never towed away, are they? Are there the same cars in different spots? I mean are there a finite number of cars playing musical spots?

Are they always from Queensboro Toyota?

It's not fair to criticize the entire department because of anecdotal observations or isolated corruption. There is corruption in every organization and I think we can all agree the nypd has made great strides historically(think: serpico). I would argue that the police just sitting there, which seems like doing nothing to you, actually serves as a pretty productive crime deterrent. And I do not agree they are doing nothing.

This is not to say I think the nypd are a perfect force, I personally have a huge issue with stop and frisk, but on my daily walks between northern and Roosevelt I usually see police and their presence makes me feel safer and appreciative of their work.

I think the real issue is that Kelly has been riding the coattails of what came before- programs that already reduced crime.  It is time for him to go.
