Where are all the trash cans?
« on: September 15, 2013, 10:08:13 PM »
This morning I was walking my dog down Northern Blvd and noticed that almost all the corner trash cans were missing. If my memory serves me correctly, I'm almost certain that every corner had one on  both sides of the street. Of course, that didn't mean there wasn't any garbage because there sure was plenty of that. I  noticed bags of what appeared to be household  trash on many of the corners next to lamp posts or next to those newspaper dispensers. I was once told that  garbage cans in JH are often overflowing because people who  rent rooms throw their home garbage in city trash cans as to not call attention to an illegal conversion. I guess having no cans at all hasn't really solved the problem. On a somewhat more positive, yet questionable note, there was a garbage can finally placed at Diversity Plaza.....smack dab in the middle as if it were some sort of monument. Why they just cant place a garbage can next to the entrance of the subway  or on the corner is beyond me.

This is totally true, and I've also seen it where the landlord will walk around the neighborhood dropping bags onto other neighbor's trash piles that have been put out for collection, or in public trash cans.  (my friend lived in a basement apt on 83rd st. he witnessed her doing this on numerous occasions)

I've also seen the laundromat staff on 75th St betw 37th Road/37th Ave running their garbage to the building across the street's pile.

Was there a parade coming up?  Before Queens Pride all the cans were removed as a result of the Boston bombings.  They were replaced after the parade.

quite a few of the cans along 37th have disappeared for good. i'd say about 25 percent of the corners that once had them no longer do. i know there was one alongside the mailbox on the corner of 76th, which i usually used before turning the corner going home that is no longer there.

Perhaps the city is following what we are going to expect with subways, no garbage cans.  There is also another issue of people who live illegally in apartments and have to bring their garbage to the street cans, so not to set off alarms that there is overcrowding in the buildings.

If you complain to 311 that the baskets are missing, they will bring replacements.

I see the garbage cans everyday,so no they are not gone.  Except today, because of the parade - were they are removed so muslims don't plant bombs.

Abu what does this have to do with OC?  That wasn't done in the name of religion? So please tell me, when someone says they are a muslim committing a crime in the name of islam using a muslim book advocating violence then it is what it is?  OC was not committed by any religious affiliation, so what is your point?  To deny this is islam is like saying the IRA wasn't Irish.
I also remember 9/11, Boston, and what just happened in Kenya and Mumbai.  Perhaps wahhabism needs to be addressed for what it is , as opposed to people becoming offended by people asking when will it stop.

Not all Muslims  are wahabbists and not all wahabbists are terrorists. But back to garbage cans... I will definitely be calling 311 because I can never find a garbage can around my place and when I do, there's always a teetering jenga tower of garbage hovering over the rim.
