Table Wine
« on: September 22, 2009, 07:38:31 PM »
A new wine/liquor store is getting ready to open on the south side of 37th Avenue between 79 & 80 Streets.  In a brief conversation with the owner today he said that their focus will be on wines.
They have a petition that you may sign, as they are in the process of getting their liquor license.

The owner was at the farmers market, gathering signatures to present to the Community Board for permission to get a liquor license. I walked by the shop, and was pleased to see how he is improving the storefront. Stripping the wood down to its original finish, and exposing beautiful brass as well. I am so happy that this vacant space will not be another junk store, and that these guys recognize our nice little historic district and hope to improve it.

I spoke with Ernesto the owner today and signed the petition.  This is very good news for our neighborhood!  They are also doing a beautiful job of restoring the place to it's original wood floor and brass molding on the store front.

If you go by the place (next to Joseph Locksmith), sign the petition so that they can get a license from NYS.

Keep your fingers and toes crossed!

What about this place makes you think it will be better than the existing wine and liquor stores on 37th Ave?

It will be mostly a wine store, not like the others, which are liquor stores.  Also, they will actually know something about good wine and be able to educate people about wine with tastings, etc.

I agree.  After stopping by to have a look at the space and sign the petition, I have a good feeling about this place.

Anybody know what's going on with this?  Every time I go by, the gate is down and there doesn't seem to be further action.  Ernesto...if you're reading, please give us an update.  Thanks!

I've also noticed no activity in a while.  The owner did mention a while back resistance from the liquor store on 84th & 37th Ave which protested to the Liquor Authority this store opening.  Could it be that the renovation is done and that he's waiting for the liquor license?  If this is the situation, I hope they can be open for Christmas & New Years.  I would also like to see it open for Thanksgiving but that might not be possible.

I know he received approval for a liquor license.  Maybe, our city bureaucracy being what it is, it takes forever to actually get the license.  I'm hoping he is still planning to open, as originally planned.
