I don't agree that people don't care that this is happening in other neighborhoods. I am definitely bothered by this happening anywhere as are all people I've spoken to about the looting.

Well it certainly hasn't been mentioned on this forum.  The first time worries about looting has been mentioned on this forum is when it directly affects us. This thread.

I cannot see that there has been  any public condemnation of the looting in other neighborhoods on this forum.

We are fools if we didn't see that what affects other neighborhoods in NYC will come here too.

We are part of New York.

Other neighborhoods are our neighbors too.

then we should open up discussion to everything that happens anywhere in NYC -- from flooding in Sea Gate during a storm to the shuttering of beloved stores in Stapleton.

“Self-absorption in all its forms kills empathy, let alone compassion. When we focus on ourselves, our world contracts as our problems and preoccupations loom large. But when we focus on others, our world expands. Our own problems drift to the periphery of the mind and so seem smaller, and we increase our capacity for connection - or compassionate action.”

Any word from our other elected officials???

Ramos, Cruz and Moya denounced the "loot-out." That's how all of this started.  See:

Considering my actions.

I am planning to be on the street, hoping to somehow stop looters from attacking our neighborhood.

Or at least making it more difficult for them...by increasing numbers.

"there must be eyes upon the street, eyes belonging to those we might call the natural proprietors of the street. The buildings on a street equipped to handle strangers and to insure the safety of both residents and strangers, must be oriented to the street. They cannot turn their backs or blank sides on it and leave it blind."

watch this:

if the cops know there is a loot out, but the cops are not on the scene, or on the scene in numbers to effectively stop any sort of looting in its tracks...then the cops don't care if the neighborhood is being looted.

what they care about is seeing minorities and 'liberals' pitted against black people and the cause.

so be there, and have your cameras out without bias. see who the real looters are.

also this:

who begins looting a commercial street before stores close down. before nightfall? that's beginning with quite a handicap.

finally:

people are arguing that looting is wrong and want it denounced in all neighborhoods.

killing black people is wrong. denounce that, end that and I promise you the looting will end. how many small businesses in this neighborhood got any sort of insurance during covid, compared to corporations. you want to argue about looting consider it out of the frame of standard definition.

PS

defunding police doesn't mean relying on vigilantes keeping the peace. but when crime is down but police budget goes up, up, up...don't you think your kids deserve some of that cash being put into their education? weren't you all up in arms that elmhurst wasn't getting the funding it needed?

It is good to be out, keeping social distance and watching out for your neighbors. Just please, approach this unsourced "loot out" rumor with skepticism and be extra careful not to make assumptions about potential looters based on appearances. And beware the cops.
