Mehfil hasn't yet hit favorite status for me (too much competition), but I've tried it twice and had two good experiences.  James_and_Faye, on your recommendation I'll try that Pullao next time.  If you like this dish, you should also try to two delicious "Palau" entrees at Afghan Kebab House -- I particularly like the one with orange rinds in it.

I walked by today with my coworker and mentioned I heard it was good.  He expressed concern because it seems empty most of the time.  A guy in front of us stopped and expressed how much he had liked it.  ;D

I love JH.  Was it one of you by chance?

Went tonight for dinner with friends from this board.  We ordered a lot of food starting with samosas to three entrees plus palak paneer, naan, dal, raita, chutney, two orders of rice.... more food than we could eat... but we ate almost everything!

Everything was delicious.  The spinach with home made cheese (palak paneer) was the best I've ever eaten.  I wanted to lick the bowl.

The place: it was attractive and comfortable. I also liked their metal cups and bowls and bamboo menus.  And I love sitting in a booth.   The service was friendly and attentive.    I'm so glad I finally went.  I know many people aren't eating out much now so I hope this place survives.

First, do no harm.

I was walking by Mehfil today, and spur of the moment decided I wanted to try it for dinner.  I walked in and placed an order for takeout (Palak Paneer) and then ran across the street to Met to pick up a few items.  My food was ready in under 15 minutes, and the people in Mehfil were very nice.  And the palak paneer was so good!  The portion is very large, enough for 2-3 meals and it comes with a lot of rice.

We ordered a bunch of food from Mehfil last night and it was excellent. It was a large order and they said it would take an hour to deliver and they came in exactly an hour.

Very pleasant on the phone, plus they accept credit cards.

We had the palak paneer, chicken tikka, onion kulcha bread, chana masala, dal, raita and lassi's.

My family and I went to the buffet a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it...especially the tandoori fish and bread pakora!  I don't know if bread pakora is on the regular menu, but I've never had it outside of my mother-in-law's house (and never even seen it at a restaurant).  It's basically a deep-fried slice of sandwich bread (usually wonder bread) covered in the normal pakora chickpea batter.

I've been to Mehfil and had take-out once. The second time was much better. The Chicken Tika Massala was tender and the Matar Paneer was great too. I also really like the Riata sauce.

I've been 3 times so far.  The vegetarian section of the buffet was delicious and the vegetarian entree I had the first time was so good that I haven't tried another entree.  I can;t remember the name but it was a spinach dish with chickpeas and broccoli inside.  Mmmmmm.

FYI:  If you go to website www.restaurant.com, there are Mehfil gift certificates.  The price is $10 for a $25 gift certificate, and if you use the code "SAVE" you will receive 70% off and the price is only $3 for a $25 gift certificate.  I just purchased 2 (and some for other restaurants), but have not used them yet.  Only catch is that the certificate can only be used Sun-Thurs, for dinner, with a minimum $35 purchase.  Link below all about restaurant.com:

So I went into Mehfil today as I wanted to try it and it was close to my apt so I can get delivery from them. I am sad to say that my experience was not good. Right after I was seated i moved the chutney tray that was on the table and a roach crawled out from under and walked across the table. I told the waitress and left...

I called in a delivery tonight from Mehfil.  The guy on the phone told me that future delivery orders can also be placed online. The thing is...I didn't ask about a website.  I just assumed the restaurant had it's own website.  Anyone know where to place an order online?

Looks like their ordering process is a bit time consuming... you need to add things to your "cart" one by one.  A simple email or phone call would be a lot faster.

But their food is well worth it, no matter how you order!

Thanks Todd.  I was curious to check out Mehfil's online ordering process only because the person on the phone was encouraging me to use that method for future orders.  I suppose he thought it would be more convenient.  I may give it a shot next time!

I've had dinner there about three times---never been for buffet--and I have to say that it's now my favorite Indian restaurant in the neighborhood and in rotation among my top five JH restaurants. Love the spinach with chick peas dish!

I did not have a good experience at this restaurant.  I usually try samosas at every Indian restaurant. If they can get the pastry dough right, then they usually know what they are doing.  Not only was the doughthick & tough, they apparently fried them in very old oil.  not good.
