No updates from me, but....my speculation is that the construction shed that's on the 80th street side is hiding a bank of windows in what used to be a solid brick wall.

The lack of of updates is a missed opportunity to begin building a loyal customer base. PLEASE TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON.......can't you tell there is so much pent up demand for a decent place to eat in this neighborhood that we actually want to sit in and spend time in?..... we want to be able to get behind you and build the hype for your grand opening.......just sayin

I'm as eager as the next person to learn more about this project.   But I certainly understand their preference to proceed with their work quietly and privately until they have news to share.

We've seen two models of communication by new restaurants under development in our neighborhood.  One has shared with us every step of the process, including detailed design choices, struggles with permitting, etc.  This has included a fair bit of drama when there have been disagreements with members of this discussion forum and criticism of the community board.   The other restaurant has been more measured in its communications, reliably showing up here to update us when they have tangible news to share.  But given that they have missed their opening date as well, I'm sure they've been traveling a similarly difficult road.  In the end, despite being led by people who know what they are doing, both are taking a lot longer to come to life than anticipated.  The obstacles to opening a business in this city are clearly very high.

Nonetheless, the neighborhood is rooting for them, and they'll both be welcomed eagerly when they finally do open up.   I'm sure they'll welcome any word-of-mouth publicity we can provide when they're ready for it.

The previous post is right on. As a former cafe owner I learned the hard way not to share too much info before you're ready. City permits can delay you at the last minute, as can cash crunches. When you tell people about an opening that then doesn't happen, you lose credibility. All news has to be carefully parsed out.

To be fair, the over-communication you're referencing went to the point of disparaging comments towards other food establishments in the neighborhood. The dirty laundry of the road to open-date is interesting to witness, but I'd say the one you're referencing went far above that and strayed off that topic quite often.

Alas, your plaintive cries have gone unanswered three times. I think it's safe to assume that whatever the status of this bistro/gastropub is, the developers are not reading or responding to the JHL board.

I happened to walk by a few weeks ago and was able to see inside.  I confirmed that there has been no work done on the space for several months.  However, based on what has already completed, it has real potential with an open kitchen and a large bar area.  If it ever gets completed it has the potential to be a neighborhood changing restaurant.  So if the developers are reading this, I hope you find the money to keep going!

according to his profile, it's been over a year since Dudley has been "active" on the board in any way -- not that he needs to keep anyone apprised of his doings, but for a once-regular poster to disappear entirely doesn't bode well for the venture. just hope nothing serious has happened.
