That's great. I'll be there. And just in case the owner thinks he can weather the storm of a little negative press and public outrage, it might be worth planning for a slightly more extended campaign.

How will the business owner know he is the subject of a boycott?

Does anyone know the appropriate phone number to call? This would be a good way of (repeatedly) letting them know there is a boycott. Stopping by to let management know in person as well. I wouldn't leave it up to them to realize that sales are lower than they had expected. They need to hear it from the community directly and loudly.

Well, these are still the Key Food people, Mr. Haque.

The shame also is that the store does not bear the Key Food name, I know Key Food and they are a strict cooperative, now all my hopes are gone since this will be called Global Supermarket.

I am displeased with his lack of effort to accommodate some workers as he promised, and intend to attend the rally tomorrow.

My story about supermarket workers goes deep for me, as my mother was a supermarket cashier who was booted by new ownership of her store due to the fact that she refused to take a pay cut from $6.50 to the minimum wage of $4.00.

But she was lucky in a sense, the previous owner heard of this and offered her a job at his main store, which unfortunately was too far to travel, and since she did not accept aided her in getting unemployment benefits from his corporation.  This was a generous owner, and an excellent union, Local 1500.  Ironically, this generous man was Gerald Mandell, who is one of the sons of the founder of Key Food.

The displaced workers at Trade Fair were not as lucky as my mother.

I truly am upset by the continued negative events happening at the former Trade Fair.

I'm hearing that there is no truth to this story and that Trade Fair is here to stay.

I am sorry to say that who ever told you that Trade Fair is here to stay is not being truthful.

- There is an application for a new Grocery Beer License for the location - pending with the NYS Liquor Authority
(Please note: these applications require a bill of sale for a temporary license, and the lease transfer to issue a permanent)

- I have spoken to the landlord's rep, and he confirmed it

- Employees have acknowledged their transfer to another Trade Fair location, as the store is being sold

- Tenants in the building where Trade Fair is located have been informed of the change by Trade Fair employees
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, Eros?

pure conjecture on my part, but i'd say it comes down to two words:

shell game.

thinking it's a faux sale, just shifting a property within a partnership in an attempt to dodge union obligations and possibly other debts.  just a guess.

That's been my opinion all along.

Global SuperDisaster. Jackson Heights Herald on Twitter is posting photos of Peralta, Danny and the giant rat, and Danny looks ready to start a fight with someone off camera. Haque needs to write a check, sell the place and get the heck out of Dodge.

Open yesterday, picketed complete with Rat.

Open this afternoon, no sign of pickets, no Rat. I suppose it's too much to hope this indicates some positive developments!

A friend who is not computer literate went in today. Said nothing has changed. Clientele still as rude as ever, too.

5:30 pm

Took my first peek inside since they reopened.
Saw Trade Fair brand items on the shelves.
Bought nothing.
The store was mostly empty.
Went across to Food Town, shopped and they were doing quite well.

Good job JH!

Off topic, but how were walking conditions? Didn't venture out today for fear of my old bones on ice.

Other than taking a quick look inside, I haven't shopped at Global, but someone told me that they are only accepting credit card for purchases over $10.

It's getting to the point of hilarity. The new supermarket is already a disaster because of the labor dispute, and it continues to do everything possible to make sure it never succeeds; first, by not hiring enough workers and now, this asinine credit card rule. They are essentially saying to the neighborhood that they don't want our business and want to fail.

Foodtown is probably loving this. For the time being, it seems like it will always be crowded there.
