Does anyone remember a pet store on 37th Ave across the street from Trade Fare?  When I moved in here in 1996, this store sold puppies and had them in the window playing.   I am not sure what store is in its place now.

Joe, I think it may have been located in the space now occupied by the mailing center next to Dunkin Donuts.

Joe, are you referring to the Petland Discounts shop?  As I posted earlier, this store doesn't stock the merchandise I normally shop for.  I would like to see a store that carries better quality pet foods such as Canidae, Innova and others.  I know that Coral on Roosevelt Ave. stocks these items, but that store is so poorly maintained, and I feel like I always have to climb around boxes to shop there.  In my opinion, a pleasant shopping experience plays a major role in why I decide to patronize a store.

Yes thats the one I refer to.  I really havent shopped in many pet stores so I am unfamiliar with the brands you mentioned.

I agree that Coral is a poor looking place, its really dirty inside.

Let me just say that not only is a great pet store needed, your idea for a pet hotel is MUCH needed as well! Since moving to Queens, we've been searching for some one close by to board our cocker spaniel, and this would be an excellent resource. Also there was a fairly decent pet store in my old nab, park slope called NYC Pet. They carried some excellent brands of food, like wellness, science diet etc. You might want to check them out to get some ideas.

Tigoillo, I've shopped at NYC Pet as well, and have frequently had to make detours there when we've visited Fairway on the weekends.  It's a nice  shop loaded with great pet products.  I agree that a store like NYC Pet would be fabulous for Jackson Heights!

Here's their website:

Also, I just recalled that there was a Petland Discount in Park Slope like the one in JH, and I would always prefer to shop at NYC Pet, mostly because they carried Wellness pet food, but also because the shop was nicer and the staff was ususally helpful and friendly.

On 58th Street off Roosevelt Ave. is Rainbow Pet Spa and store.  Fabulous place with good quality food, supplies etc.  I go there for my poodle's grooming etc.

On 86th Street off Northern Blvd. is a tiny pet store with a small grooming room that's always busy.  I go there to buy Wellness cuz it's cheaper than Rainbow but Rainbow is where I get most everything else.  Here's there website.  And I am not in anyway affiliated with them.  My Vet, Heights Veterinary Hospital had a card up and I went and checked them out and liked them.

I've gone to Rainbow, but they don't carry the brand of food I shop for.  I did manage to find my brand at another pet store off Roosevelt, across the street from La Flor.  They have lot's of great products there, but it's a trek to pick-up food.

a place across from La Flor?  I have to go look.  Have you gone to the great pet store in Long Island City called City Dog Lounge on Vernon Blvd. near 50th Street?  It's good and has a lot of good quality food and supplies.  I've checked out so many pet stores.  There should be a thread here for pet stores. LOL

Here's a place I've shopped at that also maintains a nice variety of healthy pet foods and assorted pet products.  Their website only seems to list a few of the brands they offer, but the walk-in store carries more variety.  We use Canidae products, and this is one of the few places that does carry it.  What's nice is that they also give you free samples with your purchase.  It's right off Roosevelt Avenue, on 52nd Street -- across from La Flor.

These guys have a pet spa where they board both cats and dogs.  Don't know if they groom cats though. You could call and ask.  I take my dog to them.

Chuckster, since I suspect you'll pop in here: I went and looked for the pet store you recommended on 52nd across from La Flor and couldn't find it.  I drove past it twice... nothing.  Am I blind?

Thanks, I did try Rainbow and they mostly do dogs.  (Thanks, btw, to you and others who posted on the pet supplies thread).  It's a long shot, but I was hoping to find someone local who specializes in cats because, well, they can be resistant.
