My tree!  :D

I thought the two lots where they ripped down the beautiful house on 34th Ave and 74th street were going to be schools. Or annexes at least...

Camp Bow Wow is awesome. We love it- but more importantly, so does our dog!  :smitten: :smitten:

Why would the Elmhurst Hospital workers stop going?

Anyone been to Molly Bloom's on Queens Blvd? Around the 40's and on the Q32 route.

I like Molly Bloom's a lot- we went there after dinner at Salt and Fat, and it was really good.

This place will be absolutely gorgeous.  Saw the inside a long time ago and everything was gutted out to start anew.  It expects to be the "Queens" gem, with plenty of moulah invested in the renovations so that the neighborhood can appreciate this fabulous establishment.  Unique places always outdo those chain restaurants.

Any idea of the menu? I'm dreaming of something akin to the Sanford in Astoria (interesting, but inherently affordable), but I'm guessing it's just going to be a typical diner menu?

It looks like there's been a lot of work going on lately. I'm excited, despite my reservations.

I would like a nice, local bar, a little more "central" than Legends- where it's a little less weird to order a mixed drink or a glass of wine. Something like Molly Bloom's in Sunnyside or Longbow in Bay Ridge. I actually don't want a "Brooklyn" bar- something like TBD or Arcade would be weird in this neighborhood. But I wouldn't mind an Astoria Bar- a McCanns, an Astoria Brewhouse, a Sparrow.

And I have talked about opening a bar like this with friends... but the funds and the time (we all have young children) aren't there right now. But a bar with locally sourced snacks (maybe a weekend brunch), some nice wine choices, some craft beers, but also low key and not stuffy. Right now my best bet is to drink at Espresso 77, and that just seems strange...

Thanks for the update on behaviors. For some strange reason (maybe because my dad read 'Field & Stream'), I've had a deep fear of rabies. OK, that sounds weird, but I read about a rabid animal in it when I was about 10.

The sheltered area is not much used, so seems to me a logical place for the animal to be.

As I've said, I will report back.

I heard this horrifying story of a woman trapped by a rabid raccoon on This American Life, and since then I've been terrified of rabies! (It was this one: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/319/and-the-call-was-coming-from-the-basement?act=1 )

Flushing Meadows Corona park has lots of paved space you could practice on, and long stretches.

Peach Cobbler from The New Best Recipe. So good. I make 3 every peach season and bring them to every place I'm invited. Not too sweet, the peaches stay sort of firm, and the flavor is just so nice. Basic, but really, really good.

I find the insides too airy and not chewy enough, and the outsides not hard enough. Maybe they're not boiled? I prefer the bagels at Bagel House, but overall I love the bagels at Lot's in Astoria which blow all JH bagels out of the water.

I'm glad other people like them though... I hope they do well. I'll keep going there for my occasional morning coffee :)

I'm going to be checking out the food trucks in LIC on Wednesday. It's a fun idea:

I really like their coffee, but I'm not a fan of their bagels, though I really want to be. I keep trying them and each time I'm disappointed.

The other night I screamed and launched across the couch, over my husband, past his laptop and scurried over the arm of the couch to avoid one that was on the lampshade next to me. Still gives me shivers! Gross. I hate them, and I feel like there's been more than usual this summer...
