Restaurants & Food / Pagliaccio pizzeria?
« on: October 19, 2012, 08:32:33 PM »
I was on Northern, and I saw that in the half of the old-Pio Pio space that's not Amaru, there's a "gourmet" pizzeria. I couldn't find any information online about it (no website, nothing on Yelp, only a gmail email)- has anyone been? I grabbed a menu, and the pizzas look really good. I want to try the "Despana" (Chorizo from Despana, Manchego, Cabrales and Goat Cheeses).

This is especially prevalent on the side streets north of Northern Blvd. I also see a carpet cleaning van with the ugliest dummy attached to it all the time.

About half the time that I spot the dummy on the roof of the van it actually shocks me and I think it's a real person!

Also, Mi Tierra on Northern and 80th has begun stocking some interesting beers, though the selection is small. We got a UFO pumpkin beer there, and it was really good.

JeffSaysYes's blog, Jeffrey Tastes: I Want More Food was in Manhattan User's Guide this week! I was excited to click on a link promising to talk about Queen's food and find one of our own!  Congratulations Jeffrey!

Here's a link to the article: http://manhattanusersguide.com/article/newwyork (INTERSECTION 09.19.12 is the issue, if it doesn't directly link)

And here, of course, is Jeffrey's blog: http://iwantmorefood.com/

In the neighborhood, The Met on 37th definitely has the best selection. If you're willing to travel a little, Beer World in Sunnyside on Queens Blvd is amazing.

And it's right near Salt and Fat! Yum!

I noticed the new awning when I walked by the other day.... They used to have a decent cuban sandwich, though not as good as I could get in Washington Heights.

Do you know what their delivery range is? I was recommending them to my friends on 92nd, and I wasn't sure if they went that far east...

To jump in regarding the wish for a bareburger-type place-- F. Ottomanelli Burgers and Belgian Fries is in Woodside, but it's not a horrible walk in nice weather, and they deliver (and are on seamlessweb.com) to JH.

I love aged gouda, more than any other cheese. I usually get mine from Fresh Direct, it will be nice to be able to patronize a local business!

Once driving from Astoria to JH, I saw a possum with a bunch of babies hanging on her back crossing 80th Street up by LaGuardia. The babies were all bald, so she looked like a large, patchy rat. It was pretty gross, but I imagine the airport is a good place to live if you're a possum.

There's still one on Northern between 79th and 80th.

I hopped onto my fire escape for a better look on what is going on. The helicopter is huge and has a huge spotlight. They're not coming as far north as my building, but seem to be cutting off right after 35th Ave on 80th Street. It's really loud though. Hopefully they'll find the guy(s?) soon.

I love the crepes in Astoria at the cafe triskelle. It's on 36th avenue. Actually everything there is good.  :D

Triskelle is wonderful- I haven't been there in years- I'm so glad it's still around. I'll have to check out the new place in woodside!

I'm a big fan of the blog http://steamykitchen.com/

Her recipes are really accessible and easy. I don't own the cookbook , but I've made several of her recipes very successfully.
