Chuckster I'm a big John Cusack fan myself. SAY ANYTHING, MUST LOVE DOGS, HIGH FIDELITY, RUNAWAY JURY are a few favorites.

You left out Better Off Dead.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Re: Super Tip question
« on: June 11, 2008, 07:41:21 PM »
I'm a super in my building and I'm just happy to have ppl offer a tip now and then.  I usually say, "no, that's not necessary" once and let them force it on me.

It doesn't happen often, so even when it's only $5 or so, I'm appreciative.

If I was in your situation, I'd base it on how long he was there and how difficult the job was.  (usually determined by how much cursing was done under his breath)   ;)

I am also a beer snob...

If you ever find yourself in Astoria, there's a bar on 35th St and 35th Ave called "Sunswick" with 24 taps!!

It's right near the Kaufman movie theatre so you can make a day of it.   :D

I'm sure that someone would have mentioned it, but since I'm here and don't feel like cleaning my apt, I'll do it myself. :-)

There's Cassidy's Ale House on 75th and 31st.   The place has been there for a long time.  Started off (as far as I know) as Stable Mates, then went to Big Boys in the 90s and has been Cassidy's for...6 or 7 years?

Not sure it would fit into the category of "low key" or not, but if you go there after 3:00ish, you're sure to catch a few of the teachers from McClancy decompressing from their day.   The food is on the better-than-decent side but the wings were on the tiny side the last time I ordered them there.

They have the usual beer selection with 8 or 10 taps, but being a bit of a beer snob, I can't get excited over Miller, no matter how cheap it is.   ;)

Oh my GOD!   You mean to say there's a community in the area WITHOUT a Starbucks??

Since I don't live in Jackson Heights anymore I can't really comment on it, I just love this picture  :-)

Neighborhood Chat / HELLO!!! :-)
« on: November 17, 2007, 06:50:59 PM »
Well hello all.

I grew up in Jackson Heights but make my home in Astoria now.  Found this forum through our own Astorians.com site and since I never did post in the "Hello" thread there, I'd make up for it by starting one here.    I'm a home improvement contractor (not a plug) and part time super in my building.   Miss the Sizzler and the Archer Store across from it, along with Record Room on 82nd St, and the Hobby Hut on 83rd.  Glad to see Jahn's is still holding on and played darts a few times over at Budds.

See, I don't know what to say.  Which is probably why I never posted on the "Hello" thread in Astoria.

Congrats to you all on your new forum.  Hope it is addictive as our own is. :-)   Have fun.
