Can this site be archived anywhere? You're not on https://web.archive.org/
I think that would be a great idea. Especially after 14 years. This is a treasure trove of memories.

I have a lifetime membership to Leisure Video.

Wondering what I can do with that.  ;D

Would this be it?

Or this one? (NYC address lookup says the property block and lot are 1044, 6)

It seems to be the brick building to the left of the smaller home. Can't find a photo of it alone.

My mother has identified the house that my family lived at 80-18 24th Ave before the city took over the property via eminent domain for the airport landing lights. The property is now part of Landing Lights Park.

Nope. This is not the house we lived in. Still searching for a photo of 80-18 24th Ave before 1957

The house wasn't identified correctly on the NYC Municipal Archives tax photos, so that made it hard to confirm. But yes, finally, I can see the house that my parents lived in when they first married, where I and my brother first lived, and my uncle and grandparents.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Sunnyside - new Queens comedy this fall from NBC
« on: September 28, 2019, 03:31:35 PM »
I watched it. That's 1/2 hour of my life I will never get back. The only thing about Sunnyside was the name of the show and they briefly showed the Sunnyside sign.

Other than that, it was a group of people complaining about their immigration status and how hard it was to obtain green cards/citizenship.

I won't watch it again.

My family owned a home for several decades at 80-18 24th Ave. In 1957, the city bought out the house via eminent domain to put up a landing light  for LaGuardia Airport. The 1940s tax photos do not have an accurate photo of this particular house, which was located on block 1044, lot 9, the corner of 81st St and 24th Ave.

It looked like this on the 1980 tax photo. http://nycma.lunaimaging.com/luna/servlet/detail/RECORDSPHOTOUNITQUE~1~1~200554~179036:dof_4_01044_0006?sort=borough%2Cblock%2Clot%2Ceasement&qvq=q:block%3D%221044%22;sort:borough%2Cblock%2Clot%2Ceasement;lc:RECORDSPHOTOUNITQUE~1~1&mi=11&trs=12

If anyone has a photo of this corner prior to 1957, would appreciate it.

I know a couple of these guys and even dated one! Really speaks of those times.

This makes me a little sad. When we were kids at PS 69 we had our Christmas Club accounts there. Dad used to take my brothers and me to his safe deposit box in the lower level there; it was such a mysterious place. And I had a painting hanging in an exhibit in the lobby when I was about 10.

But...progress.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Animal cruelty or an overbearing government?

I agree that this is a case of animal cruelty. Good intentions gone wrong. It sounds like she may have hoarding disorder and should seek psychological help as well. Poor fur babies. Hope they find good health and homes.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Jackson Heights - Boundaries
« on: April 06, 2016, 02:39:00 PM »
I answered that DNAInfo question as well. To me, the boundaries have always been:
West-East:  BQE-Junction Blvd/94th St
South-North:  Roosevelt/Astoria Blvd.

I grew up at 32-56 76 St right behind the Northern Lanes parking lot. We were definitely in the 'heights!  :D

14
Was that in a brick building on 77th St next to the park?

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Movies set or filmed in JH

Cagney and Lacey - TV Series. Mary Beth Lacey's family apartment was in JH. Address was listed at 333 86th Street Jackson Heights, NY 11370.

I always always impressed with the size of the apartment.
