Me too! I have been wondering just where this park is in terms of planning. The other meetings were well advertised
and attended it seems to me...

Big announcement tomorrow about parks funding.   Here's hoping that Travers gets a good slice.

Travers was not one of the 35 parks listed.   They doesn't mean there's not funding for it... it is just not part of this new initiative.

Bummer! Seems like we were perfect given the descriptions of the other parks.

We attended the session last year and haven't heard a peep regarding the status of Travers Park since. Is this still in the works? Has it been forgotten? Does anyone have any updates or have info on this?

Not forgotten. Some delays while city agencies work out some maintenance issues. If you want to stay on top of this and other environmental and civic issues here get on the JHBG mailing list by contacting me at LenManiace@gmail.com with JHBG mailing list in subject line.

I'm looking forward to this! I can't wait to see what they have come up with - hopefully a greener park that is more accessible and welcoming to all.

Has there been a plan or design approved or submitted for Travers park, especially including Staunton Field? Just curious

Was there ever a third "visioning session"? We were looking forward to participating closer to the end and maybe that's
what this is (?) or the public was left out of the final part of the process. Sure hope that the most active users of the parks
34th Ave side with volleyball and cricket are represented in the new plan as I didn't see them listed before.

Yes, we were also hoping to come to that third session, as the other two conflicted with complicated work schedules.

Our original concern was that there be some green (plants!) included in the green space, but more recently we've joined a group of JH dog-owners who were hoping to get some provision for off-leash play (20 or so active, but over 1000 signed a petition as of a few weeks ago; I don't know what the current count is).

It's been hard to get information. Various staff people from Dromm's office and the various neighborhood groups told us there was going to be another visioning session, and so we've been waiting for that for several months. Did we miss the boat? We've been watching all these boards for announcements about that session.

Two visioning sessions were held, resulting in a plan that includes a "great lawn” that would take approximately 2/3 of the athletic field. They did a pretty good jog of incorporating the ideas of those sessions. Personally I’m a little worried that our chronically underfunded Parks Department can maintain a lawn in such a heavily used park, but let’s hope so. The walk-through visioning session coming up in a couple of weeks is supposed to be more along the lines of tweaking the earlier sessions.
I’ll be posting the details on that session on the JHBG FB page today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile here’s a head’s up for green folks about something that starts this Saturday. Check JHBG FB page and JHL for more details. Italy has La Passeggiata, the evening walk around town. Check out what’s new in Jackson Heights.
Join your neighbors in a stroll around the neighborhood with a purpose - We’ll be counting Jackson Heights street trees.
