Subway emergency exits locked
« on: June 27, 2016, 09:08:19 AM »
I noticed that some (if not all) of the emergency exits are locked at the 74th Street subway station. I could understand that they are trying to prevent fare jumping, but to not have a working emergency exit is crazy. Does anybody know what's up with this? Or has anyone else even noticed?

Am trying to figure out if I should start complaining yet.

It might be only the ones on the far ends of the station. I checked the main entrance and the one that is downstairs, and they work fine.

Perhaps it is for security in these days of alerts.
Also, maybe they are only openable from the inside like the safety gates on windows

Do you know the trick? You have to press the bar in steadily for about 5 seconds.
If it's not that, what a bummer- I'm ften travelling with a bike

Okay will try that. I like going through those exits. Especially when there are people asking me to swipe them in. I look at them and am like So Go!

YES it works! Hold for a few seconds and it releases. This does prevent me from pushing through like a bad-ass as I used to do, but I guess it's fairer this way...
Thanks for quieting my fire.
