I haven't been on in awhile but am seeing ads here- so who is getting paid and where is the money going?  IS this to pay for the webpage?

they've been here for months. and i'd imagine the funds go to the people who pay to keep the site running and spend their time administering it.

i'd like to see them make a nice profit. that's the American way.

How about getting rid of the ads and everyone paying a $5 fee a month to participate? Would that be preferable?

I don't mind the ads at all - whoever set this up should be able to make a buck (and to pay for hosting expenses).

Nobody is paid for their time on this site.  The ads partially defray the site administrator's out-of-pocket costs for the server, domain name registry, etc.   She's not making any money on this.
