I really like Jardi on Northern and 84th or so?
I love the atmosphere, the tapas are delicious and affordable - and they have a decent wine selection. I'm hoping they canned the really bad latin singer who starts at 10:00. After he starts singing, conversation is useless, although it is good for a laugh.

We checked out The Ready Penny and Terrazo last week on a Wednesday night. The RP wasn't too welcoming, so we high tailed it for Terrazo. There was an event going on upstairs, but they let us stay and drink downstairs. They had Brklyn Lager & GUINNESS on TAP!!! AWESOME! Both were great. It's the first bar I've been to in JH that I really thought was cool and relaxing. They are doing quite a bit of work on the place, and I'm looking forward to going back to see the progress. If a place like Terrazo can make it in JH (I guess technically it's Elmhurst, but whatev) it seems more places like that can totally open up.

Here's a report from Chowhound on Prince Hof (at 75-10 Broadway).

Holy crap, I'm going to try this tonight!

UPDATE: Anyone else game?  I know a bit of Korean so we wouldn't be totally helpless.

UPDATE-UPDATE: I got there too late to try the dinner specials (they end at 8pm).  I ended up just grabbing a beer and some kimchi kimbap.  Seems like a good venue for bringing a loud group of drunken friends along.  But it is definitely very, very Korean.

I made it to both the Ready Penny and Terrazo within the last couple of weeks as well. I acutally found the RP kind of nice- crap beer, but I'm not too picky about that-  but it was quiet (a Wednesday), the bartender was really nice and the regulars didn't seem annoyed by us.

Terrazo I just loved. I thought the atmosphere was really welcoming and cozy, and I thought the space was so interesting! I was there on an off night as well, so I wonder if the small-ness would be more off-putting on a weekend, when I imagine they would get crowded.

Re RP: same feelings.  I've never seen it not be quiet, although I've never been there for karaoke, which, mind you, I am dying to see.

Re Terraza: again the same setniment.  I checked it out for the first time last Saturday night and was totally blown away.  It was the last thing I expected to find in JH.  As the night went on it filled up but you could still find a seat.  Very interesting mix of people.  Definitely going to make this a regular stop.

We went to Terraza early, but there was no one there, they didn't have coffee or milk (even though they have a nice coffeemaker).  All the seats were uncomfortable and they were moving things in and out.  The music was waaaaaaaay too loud.  Again, it could be because it was early, but it was like they were doing us a favor by letting us stay there.  Why open if you are going to be doing construction?

I'll try it again some night, but it reminded me of college student coffee shop.

I must admit, I'm pretty curious to see who would participate in the karaoke at RP. I think RP has a lot of potiential, though I've heard Legends is a better scene. I still haven't gone to The Music Box (the gay bar by the subway) or Friends. Gone to Lydia's a couple of times, tho reggaton isn't my fave so it wasn't my scene.

Karaoke? Really? Now I'm intrigued...
