I'll leave it to Luis to figure out where.Or Chuckster, since, tagged you last!!! :D

I'm up for a group meet-up at Donovan's!  It's been a while since I had a good burger.

not as of late december.

i hope they don't 'redo' too much. i love the fireplace and those semi-private semi 'hidden' booths around the edges of the back room. and tvs would be fine up at the bar, but please, not in the back!

I've been wanting to try out Donovan's so this is good to hear.

Anything else new-ish in Jackson Heights?  I haven't found any bars / pubs nearby that I really like.

Bumping this thread - as a new resident of JH, I've been exploring........

UFC on Roosevelt and 71st  has a really good selection of draft beers including  fresh microbrews IPAs, marzens, porters etc , and the downstairs bar is small and dare I say it.....hipstery?

Their korean fried chicken is killer; some of the best I've had anywhere, crispy on the outside, tender in the mddle. It's freshly made so you'll have to wait..

Any more suggestions? JH is still lacking seriously in a nice place for a drink....

Amaru on northern by pio pio is a great spot for pisco drinks if you don't mind the dance club atmosphere.

I'm still looking for a quieter sport bar or pub in the area. I prefer to be able to hear the people I go to the bar with.

Try the bar at Coyote.

Also: there's a cute little Irish pub at 31st Avenue and 75th Street. It looks really nice. Anyone been?

There is also a small Thai bar on Woodside Ave. around 76 street or 77 street. It's between the Tea Cafe and the Thai grocery store. It's small but has high ceilings and is a nice little space. They also have Thai bar snacks for sale as well as drinks, and get a mostly young asian crowd, but the one time I was there, there was a nice mix of people.

Could that be Cassidy's Ale House?  I've been there for burgers, and they're great!  They have a few TVs for sports fans.

It would be great if Amaru had a quiet night....

IS there anywhere that makes a good cocktail that's NOT a sports/loud music bar

Amaru is extremely calm and has a nice atmosphere early in the evening.
After living on Northern for 7 years now, I am almost 100% sure that that the reason why it turns in to a club during the late hours/ wknds, is that they would not be able to survive without that income. Northern sadly, does not like anything too unique :(
If rents were lower. on 37ave, I personally think that is where a smaller, more charming bar may be successful. When Arunee Thai opens on 37 th, I read they will have a bar.

In regards to bars, for now, I think we all still need to take a short trip to Astoria for the type of establishments we are looking for; something charming, quiet, a little atmosphere....

I'll definitely have to check out amaru earlier, glad to hear that. 37th seems like a perfect location for a nice, low key bar. I'll keep my fingers crossed we'll get one soon. I've heard there's also a lot of good pubs in sunnyside.
