Pizza Party this Saturday from 2 - 5 PM on the Play Street

Dear Play Street Supporters:

Thank you for all your help and support with the 78th Street Play Street this year.  As you know, summer is coming to an end and so will the daily play street.  On August 31, 2010, the barricades on 78th Street will come down and cars will drive down 78th Street again.  Of course, the Play Street will remain open on Sundays until Halloween, October 31, 2010 along with the Farmer's Market.

To mark the 78th Street Play Street's great summer success, we will have a Pizza Party on the Play Street on Saturday, August 28 from 2 to 5 PM.  I hope you will be able to join us so we can thank you in person and you can see for yourself what fun we have had on the 78th Street Play Street all summer long.

Without your support, we would not have been able to make the 78th Street Play Street available all summer long to the kids of Jackson Heights.

Thank you for your support and I hope to see you this Saturday.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Nuala O’Doherty

Though note that the cops ticket and even tow cars from there MUCH EARLIER than 10 AM.  I think you can't park anytine Sunday there.

http://www.jacksonheightslife.com/community/index.php?topic=4461.0 is a good read to start.

The two months of car free 78th Street just ended yesterday.  Now it's only on Sundays until Halloween.

Incidentally, two cars actually were on the playstreet today ... luckily there were not towed (at least as 12 noon, and one had left by then -- the bold driver slowly weaving through children :( )

I wasn't at Play Street during the morning or the party last week, but I hear rumour the ice cream truck snuck on by 6 pm ...

Streets Blog is asking people to vote for the "Best Liveable Streets Moment of 2010" I think the march to the CB3 meeting to secure the play street for the summer is one of them.  Here's the link to the voting:

It only takes a second !

The Play Street won a Streetsie

Congratulations and thank you to the Jackson Heights Green Alliance, the Jackson Heights Beautification Group, Councilmember Danny Dromm and his staff, Community Board 3, our very own Really4Rob, and all of the other volunteers who made the Play Street possible this year!
