Hey.

The High Line Park in Manhattan shows us what can be done with vision...when space for a park is at a premium.

What about a movement...to build an upper landscaped level on 78th Street...where the playstreet is now...so cars can continue their journey...and kids and families and chess players...have a recreational place to go...on an upper level.

They did it in Manhattan...

J

The Queens Courier has an article on how some residents are complaining about a lack of parking due to the Play Street.

‘Play Street’ creates parking nightmare

I replied to that very one sided article.  I find out funny that one resident and an anonymous employee is 'some residents and local employees' ... guess Ms. Margaritov missed the chance to get twos ides to the story regarding residents.  I'd invite her to stop by Sunday morning (when I know it's packed, I;m usually there and quite busy).

For a different viewpoint, Streetsblog did a feature on the playstreet:

Another nice piece in the Daily News on the Play Street:

There we go.  I'm sure the scrooges will miss these articles and photos, them circling 79th and 77th for parking and all ...

Well tonight everyone - including the scrooges - is invited to a free movie on 78th Street which starts at 8:30. It's called Sleep Dealer and it looks really good: http://sleepdealer.com

I think the last night of Play Street, there should be a movie that's drive in, so all these parkers circling the block for 2 months can have something to watch as they wait for their spots.

Mybe a double feature of Cars (forthe kids) and Taxi Driver (for the grown ups)?

(I hope people realize I'm being saracstic and don't sign up for this event ... )

With such arrogance why don't we open it a day earlier and make the movie "Hit and Run" ?

CRABBY, your usual personal attacks aside, could you clarify for the rest of the community exactly why you advocating?  Or are you just posting for effect and trying to live up to your screen name?

Really4rob I am merely playing your game of innuendos and sarcasm.  How am I doing?  :coolsmiley:

I guess you're doing poorly, since I wasn't playing any game of either. ;)

Fact is, similar to the way that people wait in spaces in their cars towards the end of street cleaning times, I can bet that the last night of the street being car free, around 10 or 11 pm, cars will be on the street, idling, wait to shut off the engines and officially park at 12:01.

Hiopefully, when the street is closed next summer, we can see more eye to eye on this.  Have a great year!
