Scrabble Club?
« on: October 12, 2010, 05:23:07 PM »
Does anyone know if there is still a Scrabble club in the Heights? I know there used to be one every first Saturday of the month in the Methodist Community Church.  I always meant to go but I never got around to it so I don't even have a contact person I can reach out to.  I tried to Google it but I don't see it advertised anywhere anymore.  I called the Church's number and left a message so hopefully they'll get back to me.  Anyone know about it?

That would be fun ... I would like to know as well.  I love Scrabble.  I play it on Facebook!

Hello guys...
There is not a Scrabble Club currently in South Birmingham, so a friend and I are starting one. Unfortunately, it is not quite in Moseley, but very near.

Hi folks.

I wondered the same thing a while ago about the scrabble club.  I'm currently a member of the the Community United Methodist Church where Scrabble was first introduced.  I'll see if the scrabble club still meets up and let you know.  If the scrabble club is inactive, is anyone interested in restarting it?  Let me know and I'll get the ball rolling.

So the first Saturday of the month is just a few days away.  I still have no new information from the church but according to this website:
http://www.cross-tables.com/mapclubs.php
the Jackson Heights Scrabble Club #452 has been inactive since March 3, 2009.  Total bummer!  I wonder if that's why we have no more scrabble street sign....hmmm.
This website says that there are many community clubs that operate out of public libraries and the site is very informative:

Now, who is going to be our fearless leader and get this thing started?  Star Five......did I hear you volunteer?   :coolsmiley:

Small Update.....

I got in contact with one of the previous organizers of the Scrabble Club in the church.  She stopped running the club after about 10 years when membership declined.  I don't mind trying to get the club going again, but I'd like to know how many people are interested in joining.  I would also need a few people willing to manage the club.

The Scrabble Club used to meet on the first Saturdays of the Month and charged $5/person for the day to pay for the rental of the room (12-4), coffee and cookies.  We'll see what needs to be changed if we start it up again.

Count me in to join and be in attendance.  I would also be willing to manage.  I'd also be willing to bring sweets & treats.  It sounds just like PTA to me!  I don't know how the old club used to run and I don't know how you guys feel about this but I am hoping that the club would be mostly fun....I am not a competitive player.  Where do y'all stand on that?  Anyone looking for tournaments?  I'm sure that'd be fun to watch.

Me, too, StarFire -- to both join in and to help you manage. Let me know how I can help.
