Tiny Update...

The pastor will be making an announcement during the next service to get some of church members involved as well.

I haven't decided which day's good for the meetings, but it will either be Saturdays or Sundays and how often...

We'd have to plan it around church services right?  I'm not a member of the church and I don't know when they have their services but maybe if we had the club right after one of the services people would just trickle in.  We can also put up a flyer on the library bulletin board.  Maybe we can also notify the Renaissance School down the block and see if any high school students would like to join and of course the parents would be welcome as well.  There are plenty of ways to stir up interest....

Update:

I spoke with Rev. Davis, the English congregation pastor at the church, and she and another staff member suggested to broaden the club to a general game club so that other types games can be included.  We also decided once a month is good for starters, and we'll start next year in January on a Saturday.  What we haven't decided yet is a time.  For a four hour meeting length, what's a good starting time for everyone?  12pm, 1pm, 2pm, etc.?

2pm would be good because it's after lunch time.  A little later would be nice too like around 4 or 5pm.....then instead of family game night, we could call it "Neighborhood Game Night".  You never know, maybe we could start a new trend!  Maybe Hasbro could even sponsor it and start us off....oh the possibilities!

It was really upsetting for me and my family to learn that the 35th Ave Scrabble Points Street Sign was taken down.   The inventor of Scrabble, Alfred Butts, was my Grandmother's uncle.

Today, I was telling some of my coworkers that one of my relatives invented Scrabble.  That made me want to google Alfred Butts and Scrabble to see if anything new was written.  Much to my delight, I found this post on wanting to restart the Scrabble Club in the church where my great, great uncle worshipped and played Scrabble years ago.

Thank you for putting a smile in my heart!

Best of luck on getting the club up and running,

Also a Scrabble lover!

I've been in touch with Danny Dromms office regarding the sign and they told me that he is in the process of replacing the it but that it would take some time. Im holding them to it by calling them every few weeks.

As a fan of the game and the old sign, Ihave a picture I took of it.  I'm sure others do too, higher resolution than mine.  If we maybe got a decent one, then made  and sold postcards of it online, we could finance the sign's replacement.

I emailed Daniel Dromm's office last night regarding the missing Scrabble Street Sign.  I'll contact this office once every two weeks too....until the sign is replaced.
