Thai restaurants in JH and surrounding areas

Just wanted to give my quick take on the Thai restaurants I've tried in the area.  Has anyone tried any other ones?

Arunee on 79th: good solid food, not super spicy; great value on lunch box special

Rice on Roosevelt: a bit more upscale decor.  Had a really great seafood salad there.

Chao Thai on Whitney in Elmhurst - I went once for takeout and found the inside to be cozy and would love to go back for a sit down meal.  Ordered a main dish and a salad.  When they asked if I wanted the salad 'spicy' I wasn't sure how to answer.  I said 'medium spicy' but found that it practially burned my mouth!  Still, really good food and next time I will say no to the spicy part.

Sriprapai in Woodside - great food, extensive menu.  They even have a garden in the back.

We love, I mean really love Zabb Thai which is on Roosevelt and 72nd Street.  The flavor of the dishes are incredible and the menu is very extensive. Plus its BYOB which is awesome.

What we have found from all the Thai places around the Heights is that they all have their own niche to offer.

With Zabb, its centered around more Northern Thailand cuisine. They also have a great selection of the noodle soups that we ate at the all the street carts throughout Thailand that most Thai restaurants in the US don't have on their menus. 

I will post a more extensive review when I get a second.

Nusara is the new one in Elmhurst that the times just reviewed.
I tried it and thought it was great.

I think Arunee Thai has superb Fried Coconut Ice Cream.  If you have tried, try it the next time you're there!

I go fairly often to Sabay, on Broadway near 76th Street.  It's relatively cheap (which is important for me a lot of the time), it's comfortable, it can be entertaining sometimes (because of the Thai rock and dance videos that they're always showing) and the food isn't bad at all.  Service is also pretty fast if you need takeout in a hurry (easy to grab something there before you jump on the train, which is down the street).

Just tried Nusara at 82-80 Broadway in the mini-mall area in Elmhurst that has several other restaurants and the large Chinese market.  Food was really nice, as was the ambience.  Very cozy with good lighting and some attention paid to the aesthetics of the place.  It's not that far of a walk from JH - depending on where you happen to live it might be only about 15 minutes.

Does anyone know any Thai restaurants besides Arunne deliver? Arunee also doesn't have pineapple fried rice. Who does?

Rice Avenue delivers. It's not as good as Sriphaphai but, for delivery, it's pretty darn good.

Arunee doesn't have pineapple fried rice? It's definitely on their menu (we were there twice last week-my husband is slightly obsessed- and I'm kind of familiar with the menu), but I know it's a little outdated. They have several other pineapple dishes though, so I'm surprised.

Rice Ave definitely delivers, as does Zabb Queens. Once when we couldn't get Arunee on the phone, we ordered from them, and it was quite good.

I wish we had some quality Thai at reasonable prices in Forest Hills.  It's a shame that every Thai along Austin is either overpriced, bland or both.

Oh well.  One can only hope.

I agree.  I went to Q in Forest Hills the other night and paid $16 for mediocre pad thai.

I've been to Arunee twice and both times asked for the pork and noodles dish, which they said they were out of.  If you're not going to serve something then take it off the menu!

Arunee definitely has pineapple fried rice.  I just saw it the other day when I was there.  Overall it's solid thai food and not very expensive.  Everything i've had there has been good.  I haven't tried any of the other places listed, but am interested to compare.
