New Jackson Heights dog run that opened this week.
« on: May 29, 2010, 01:59:48 AM »
I went there earlier today and the first thing that I noticed were the pigeons perched under
the overpass, the second thing being the loud noise from the traffic on the BQE and this was around
midday so the traffic was light. Having 2 separate sections for large and small dogs is ok, but not much room to run around in either one. The benches were ok,but it would have been nice to have some small tables to go along with them. What do you think about it? I guess it's the best that they can do for now in Jackson Heights.

Wow, I must say I am a little appalled at this post!! How sad.... It has taken a long time and a lot of work in order to get a dog run in JH! We live in NYC, land of the pigeons and while I agree the traffic may be loud I'm pretty sure my dog doesn't care!! He is just happy to have a place of freedom, just like me!!!

I by all means do not want to start drama (because it is annoying) but I just wanted to let you know how hard people worked and that we should be happy we have a park (a wonderful one in my opinion) at all!

Have a great long weekend everyone!!

For sure. I haven't been yet but it is really nice to have a place to take my dog and let her run off the leash. Thanks to everyone who worked to get this done!!!

 :)

I don't own a dog, but have been considering getting one (I love dogs) and one of the detracting factors was the lack of a dog run in Jackson Heights. So congrats and much, much appreciation to the folks who got this together and made it happen.

Woof Woof Hurray!

Yay!  Maybe now the dogwalkers can go to the dog run and not have their dogs poop on my and my neighbors' sidewalks and tree pits!

Totally, though I'm fairly certain those people who don't pick up there dog s**t are not the type to care enough to bring their dog to the park!!

Went to the dog run today. Thank you so much to everyone that got this in the works.

Even though my dog is old and anti-social (not aggressive, just scared), it was great to get him outside and have a place for me to sit.

I didn't really mind the highway noise (can't justify complaining, since I chose to live in NYC). Other dog owners there were very nice and friendly (unlike some of my non-pet owning neighbors).

I just wish there was a way we could announce the dog run more. If only apartment complexes had bulletin boards...

I think the dog run is great, and I don't even have a dog.  It took a lot of imagination and vision to find a space in Jackson Heights.  I am very grateful to all those who were instrumental in getting it done. It adds another dimension to our neighborhood.

wow!!! I don't like pigeon poop either but must say that these guys took their personal time and effort to help all of us dog owners. I know I Personally did not help in any way and I am extremely grateful and look forward to taking my dogs here. and dimsum- as for the dog poop comment, I have two dogs and would never leavie their bombs anywhere. I hate to step in it just like the next guy.

I guess some people on here are a little sensitive. And they have the audacity to suggest a donation for using it. I never heard of something like that before. It cost $60,000 to develop that little space? lol. Shall I say overcharged?

A few benches,a few bags of cement. A lot of bags of mulch. Fences and gates. 2 black tubes. 2 litter
baskets. A couple of signs. A little bit of landscaping. I  just don't find it in an ideal location. Yeah I am sure dogs don't mind inhaling exhaust fumes from the traffic on the BQE. All that it's going to take is for somebody to start feeding the pigeons on a daily basis. The rats will take over in due time at night.

the little fella is probably quite serious, given his past posts suggesting that the lives of the poor and homeless are worthless.

every forum has a troll, every country has a fred phelps/sarah palin.

it's kinda cute in a way when you look at it with the right attitude  :)

Oh please.  Are you serious?

the membership thing is kinda ridiculous...membership only would be fine for certain days but requiring i file my vaccination records??? ive never heard of that being asked at any dog park anywhere else in the city.

if its gonna take an arm and a leg to get in ill probably just stick with my private backyard since vaccinations wont stop aggressive dogs from showing up.
