The bigger issue I find is Karla Giraldo, walk hand in hand with Miriam Mercedez Hernandez.

If no one has ever heard of her, she is currently facing charges from Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office for scamming immigrants, by taking money to file INS forms, and pocketing the money.

No big surprise, that shady people, follow other shady people.

From Gothamist:

Miriam Mercedes Hernandez has been ordered to pay $3 million in penalties and restitution for having scammed unsuspecting immigrants looking to obtain citizenship.

For those who are anti-Montserrate, it's time not just to vote, but to get your neighbors and your friends and their friends and neighbors to vote for Peralta.  If they are elderly, offer to walk with them to the polls.

This is from the NY Times article today:

Mr. Monserrate, meanwhile, is counting on clergy members to galvanize their flocks.

He stood surrounded by a dozen pastors on Monday outside the building that houses Mr. Peralta’s Assembly district office on 37th Avenue, near 82nd Street in Jackson Heights, a gathering he called a “coming-of-age moment for a large churchgoing community that is now understanding how to be politically active.”

and

On the streets of Queens, voters were divided. Many knew nothing of Mr. Monserrate’s legal troubles, and among those who did know, some expressed skepticism over the public version.

Religious leaders in Queens have pledged their support for Hiram Monserrate in the special election to fill the expelled State Senator's seat on March 16.

Brooklyn blogger, Boy in Bushwick, points us to an Univision poll - Peralta vs. Monserrate.  The results?  Check it out!  The Univision poll is in Spanish, but adding your vote is pretty basic.  A link to the poll also appears below.

local ministers speak out in favor of domestic abuse
« Reply #23 on: March 04, 2010, 07:43:25 PM »
so a group of local con-men (cough cough) i mean 'clergy' have endorsed monster rat because:

a) they are pleased that he hates gay men and women

b) he believes in keeping women in their place via physical violence.

these cons aren't named here, but i would urge anyone in these congregations to stop funding pro-crime 'ministers.'

i think that we know the answer to WWJD?

sorry to have started a new topic when this was already covered here...but i am still stunned that there are ministers who are so strongly in favor of beating women into submission that they would endorse something like monserrate over a legitimate human being.

admins...if it's easier to merge my  new topic here, please do so (or just delete). sorry for the quick trigger finger!

What a f--kin disgrace. That "so called" clergy would endorse a violent out of control thug and galvanized behind hatred and the denial of equal rights for gays makes me viscerialy ill. Please urge everyone you know to vote Monserrate out. It's just a matter of right and wrong.

From the comment section of the blog linked above:

"Hiram Monserrate is being endorsed by the clergy because he knows that marriage is best left between a man, a woman, and a broken bottle to the face."

Name and Shame. Name the so called 'men of God' and boycott their churches!

This report blackens the names of all the decent clergy in the neighborhood. Is every
church-going person who despises M. Rat going to be looking askance at his/her
spiritual leader?

Yikes!

no record of any of this being the case.
