Close to PC Richards right by the movie theater near Kaufman Astoria studios

Bicycle Repairman
40-21a 35th Ave
Astoria, NY 11101
(718) 706-0450

We recently bought a bike from these guys and were really happy with their service.  Also had them do some minor repair work/tune up type stuff and were happy with that too.  Nice folks and they steered me well in choosing a bike right for my needs.

I just bought my bike from Tony's Bicycles in Astoria a few weeks ago. He's very straightforward, no nonsense, no lies. He's been working there for 30 years, and his shop is right next to a bike path so when you need repairs it's not a far bike ride, maybe 20 minutes or so. They carry a lot of trek bikes, which is what me and my friend got (he got a road bike for racing, I got a hybrid bike for commuting). We went to 3 Queens shops and we felt the most comfortable with Tony's selections and knowledge.

Has anyone been to the (new, I think) bike shop right in queensboro plaza?  I think it's called LIC bikes or something like that. It has a green awning..

That was one of the 3 stores I went to, and it's not very good. They have a very small selection and not very many good brands (bike brands don't let too many bike shops sell the same brand within a small radius, so Tony told us, to limit competitive pricing). The sales guy didn't seem as knowledgeable or trustworthy as the other 2 shops I went to.

The other store, which was pretty good and knowledgeable but we ended up not going with them, is Bicycle Repair Corp in Long Island City near Steinway. They had a lot of Bianchi bikes if you're looking for that brand, and a few other big names as well. I actually liked them a lot, but Tony's had just what I needed.

What I need is a bike helmet.  I have always defied the rules, but riding in Queens is a new level of risk.  Do any of the stores on this thread sell helmets?  Thanks
