Is YogurBerry still alive? Went past it last night and the windows were covered in newspaper. Is it closed for the cold season or closed for good?

See relevant article regarding the demise of the fro-yo trend in Brooklyn.

Wow!  That would be sad news if it closed down.  Unfortunately, even during some hot summer days, the place always seemed empty.  The last time I was there I had a small cup of the green tea yogurt with one topping.  It cost me something like $7.00 :o  Maybe I wasn't paying attention and just went ahead and overpaid.  In any case, I hope it doesn't close. The last thing we need is another empty storefront on 37th Avenue.  And this was a nice one.

It has been purchased by a JH's business owner who owns several businesses here.  This person just recently purchased the one at the corner of 82nd St & Roosevelt Ave.  If you walk by this one you'll notice it's no longer just yogurt.

But hasn't the 82nd Street yogurt shop been selling all the extra stuff since it opened?  MikeV's post above doesn't instill confidence that whatever replaces Yogurberry will be unique.   :-\

It seemed more gradual to me, but I think the cell phones have been there for quite awhile, like maybe 6 months.

My impression was that both stores were always owned by the same guy, but I could be wrong.

I think you're right on that.  I remember reading something about it a while back.  If I find any more info on this, I'll post.

I was so excited when they were opening then had a fro yo and besides the high price-it had such a weird bitter taste, my son got sick.  I've had fro yo many times and did not like this place.

I live upstairs from Yogurtberry and I always thought it could be a bit cleaner in there!  Apparently the  health department agrees.

I liked Red Mango much better than Yogurberry, so I'm with you to some degree.  However, I think what needs to be stated is that this type of frozen yogurt was never intended to taste like the stuff that many of us first tried probably 20 years ago at places like TCBY.

These new places like Yogurberry, Red Mango and Pinkberry serve Korean-style frozen yogurt.  The words used in this NY Times article about the Korean-style yogurt trend include "consciously tart" "sour" and "tang."

So that may be why you perceive it as bitter.

There is nothing quite so good on a really hot day as Korean style yogurt. It is incredibly refreshing!

I passed by Yogurberry this afternoon and I saw that they were renovating the place. No indication yet of what it will become.

Wow, TCBY!  There's a flashback ...

to parapharse Homer (Simpson, not the Greek ancient):  "Mmmmmmm, yogurt flashback ..."
