Sarcasm is tough to get in text.
For future reference: the standard "internet shorthand" for sarcasm is finishing a sentence with "/s"

e.g.

I love the smell of human feces in the morning, makes our neighborhood so....edgy. /s

I took Jhlifer's advice and wrote to most of the relevant people on the list. I have heard back from Clr. Dromm. His reply was that they are aware of the problem and an organization called Common Ground is trying to get these men into shelters although with little success. Many of the men prefer to live on the streets than go to a shelter it would seem. As the NYPD no longer deals with the issue of homeless men it seems that only persuasion is left.

The final bit of advice I had from Clr. Dromm was that we should call 311 about any instance of homeless camps in Jackson heights as that will " document the situation and it helps me to get more resources" So to that end I will call 311 tomorrow and I hope anyone who cares about this issue will do the same.

I'm sad to see mentally ill homeless people tagged with the antique epithet "drunkards". Didn't that word go out with adulterer and bastard child?  For those who have so little empathy for these miserable people, they can take comfort in knowing that they are probably in the last year or so of their lives. They will be dead soon and will stop inconveniencing you.

Unfortunately the hard truth is that a person must take control of their own life.
A person must be responsible for their own life.
Help from others doesn't work when the person refuses to help themselves.
That is the difficult fact of living.
No amount of feeling sorry for folks is ever going to change things.
What that does is make the person who feels sorry "virtuous".

There are many options in this city for people to help themselves. AA. Shelters. Programs. Church etc outreach services. Social workers.

Some people have a part of their heart missing. Many of them don't even realize it. Most of them were born that way.  It's no more their fault than these pathetic dying alcoholics.

Ekbalam, what  term would you use to describe young, healthy males that hammer back countless staw-beer-tias morning, noon, and night.   In between charging the latest iPhone at the LINKNYC station. they litter, piss, shit all over the streets, while still finding time to harasses  and spit on people.  Oh, and they all do this whithin 20 yards of an elementary school.    Drunkards seems appropriate to me.

It's a fine line between feeling sorry and being an "enabler".
Enabling others to continue their detrimental lifestyle.
Some folks cannot see that they are "enablers" of detrimental behavior because they are too concerned with being "virtuous".

You remind me of the kids who set homeless people on fire. I do absolutely nothing to "enable" these extemely sick guys as they succumb to their illness. I do not encourage them, give them money or  buy them drugs or alcohol. I assume I am speaking to an "adulterer" at the very least if not a "bastard", not knowing the marital staatus of your parents.

Hmmm. Insults. And very old fashioned ones in this day and age. Interesting.

"Drunkard"?  Why not ne'er-do-well?  A few things have changed in the language since 1960.

Not my particular drug of choice. But another powerful drug is "virtue signaling"

As the Ancient Greeks would say...Balance is Everything. That I agree with.
