eros, I just noticed your post and wanted to say I have a secret for you: most business owners do what they can to cut down on costs and since Kendal is a sushi chef - why shouldn't she make sushi?  Why would that bother anyone?

as to the taking tips comment: well I don't know anything about that but I like both Kendal and Jeffrey and would bet there's more to it than that.

I must be one of the only people who don't think their prices are too high.  But I know Tomo's prices will be much lower so there will be something for everyone.  I'm sure there will be talk here comparing them when Tomo finally opens.   :)

Yes - that comment about "cash" equals "shady" is funny. There are so many restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn that is cash-only. That is actually a frustration for visitors to NY - the need to carry cash all the time.

Cash Only = Lost Business is more the point in my opinion
I carry cash in my pocket for a coffee and taxi rides (though even taxi's take cards now!), not enough for a dinner for two.

I usually order take out from Happy Kitchen so expect to pay cash to the delivery guy.  I'd much rather use a credit card for everything and just pay that bill once a month.  Zabb Thai is cash only also.  Ate there tonight.  Took out a credit card and SURPRISE!  Thank god we scrounged up the bill and tip between us but we weren't expecting it.

Regarding the East 21 and Happy Kitchen debate?

East 21 delivers faster, and their prices are cheaper ($1 Miso soup, in bigger servings!), but ...

... there is better quality shrimp shumai and salmon pieces at Happy Kitchen.  But they are more expensive, the sushi is generally smaller, and delivery takes for .... .... .... ever.

Both deliver, thank the heavens.   :smiley6600:  Neither has a large eat-in area.

So, here how I see it:

Single person, ordering in:  East 21.   :)
On a date, especiall early in the relationship, ordering in:  Happy Kitchen.   :smitten:
Married/partnered with your date, ordering in:  East 21.   :o

Hello

It is located on 37th ave between 86 and 87 street. I saw their menu(also online) at Queens Blvd location and it very big. Prices are much less than Happy Kitchen

The sign is up and each time i go past it i see people working . Next time I will ask when is the approximate opening date  ;D

Peeked in their window yesterday.  NICE   :rockon:

Booths and tables, lots of wood and bamboo.   :rockon:

I'm actually looking forward to this place opening especially if the food is half as nice as the interior.  They put a little effort into it instead of just generic tables and chairs.

so I called them today.  wanted to go and check 'em out.  not going to be open until tomorrow or next day (Sat./Sun.) according to the guy who answered the phone.  I guess I can wait a few more days so they open and get it all right.  God knows I WILL be judging them!  And then dishing about it here.  :)
