I hope we get some decent Japanese food soon!  It's the largest lacuna among our neighborhood food options.

I live near the future TOMO  and I have seen no work go on at all whatsoever other than the placing of the blank signage on the entire block

There's a big banner in the window saying "Japanese Restaurant Coming Soon" . The paper covering the windows is peeled down a tiny bit from the top and all I could see above the paper was what looked like track lighting.  Can't wait, esp. since this one is closer to me than Happy Kitchen.

I wish Tomo would open already!  It looks pretty inviting inside!  Also, it looks ready to go. I wonder if they are just waiting to catch the fish?

Seriously, though, why does a restaurant that is clearly ready (and has been for several months, judging by my last lucky peek through an open door) stay closed?  It couldn't be just an issue of a liquor license, because I'd gladly eat sushi without any alcohol!

I imagine there are lots of permits and inspections required, staff to hire and train, etc.

I share your impatience!  But in the meantime, I did just have pretty decent takeout from East 21.

If there is a commercial kitchen, it takes a long time usually to pass the fire supression inspection for the Ansul System. The city agencies are slow and it rarely passes on the first test. Rescheduling is a nightmare.
