Cheese is a dying food market. I predict within 10 years, half the population will look at cheese in disgust as more become educated on the goodness of plant based foods. After all, cheese is made from the milk of cows (usually) whose milk is meant for their newborns... but instead stolen so humans can make dairy products from it. Imagine that! Soon we will have cheese museums and meat museums so future generations can see just how barbaric this generation was.

Totally not for a cheese store in this neighborhood.

the only really moral diet is the Jain one. no root veg, since we kill billions of living creatures yearly by using root vegetables.

Well, I for one am thrilled with the new addition. I love cheese, I won't hate it in 10 years, and I strive every day to have a positive and welcoming outlook, unlike you two.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

I hope they carry compte. No compte for miles. I found it last in LIC seven years ago.

What about the poor almonds? They didn't even ask to be milked!

And soybeans too! Ripped from their mother's breast only to be exploited as milk and tofu.

I look forward to a good cheese shop.
Hope they'd carry decent olives as well. This morning I noticed that neither Food Town or Dynasty are now carrying much beyond pre-packaged and canned olives. When Dynasty had originally reopened they had a well-stocked mix & match olive bar. Long gone.

Such a small store though. Earlier someone wrote that it would be an Italian deli, so maybe it will have a Mediterranean locus.

I promised to make my son pancetta N peas pasta. But where to find pancetta. The three La Nueva paneterrias in the 80s carry prosciutto but not pancetta.

In my opinion a small, well curated cheese shop is far better than a large one that is uninteresting. East Village Cheese was about the same size and awesome until they got priced out.

Sorriso in Astoria can sell you all the pancetta you need. Also, the butcher in Grand Central Market has surprisingly good prices for pancetta when they have it in stock.

The sign also states 'cured meats and bread'

If done right, this could be a good business. I had once recommended this type of place, in an old thread of ' what JH needs'  I envisioned a more specialized version of Lemon Tres, but more offerings than Despana.  Looking forward to it.

the owner of Appetito referred to it as an Italian deli in a couple of conversations i had with her. i'm guessing that may be the case.

They have something pancetta like. Just as they have many things that are cheese like at their new(ish) cheese counter. The fact of the matter is that NONE of the grocery stores in the immediate area have managers or buyers that can negotiate common place foodstuffs that somehow remain exotic around here. We could really use a small, dedicated store that sells such things run by someone that is knowledgeable. I hope that whomever takes over the Appetitto space can do that, but I'm cautious of being too optimistic.
