Cheese is a dying food market. I predict within 10 years, half the population will look at cheese in disgust as more become educated on the goodness of plant based foods. After all, cheese is made from the milk of cows (usually) whose milk is meant for their newborns... but instead stolen so humans can make dairy products from it. Imagine that! Soon we will have cheese museums and meat museums so future generations can see just how barbaric this generation was.

Totally not for a cheese store in this neighborhood.

Actually, cows didn’t exist until we humans bred them from oxen for their milk, so the argument that their milk is only for baby cows is a bit disingenuous-without milk for human consumption there would not be a baby cow.

I really do hope they are successful bc it appears it's a young couple that owns it. Must be a tough business though... I guess it will go hand in hand with Table Wine which appears to be a sustainable business. If I were them, I'd do a lot of outreach at Table Wine, Queensboro, Farine. Maybe make a branded Stand Alone plate.

I did go into the foodtown yesterday and they actually do have a healthy cheese selection. No one to talk to about it but yeah there's a bunch..

Foodtown's cheese counter is actually decent -- good, by supermarket standards. a nice selection of stiltons and cheddars (had a very nice whiskey washed one last week) and some decent triple cremes. it's kind of random in terms of stocking, but i usually find something worth picking up.

I hope they carry compte. No compte for miles. I found it last in LIC seven years ago.

Every cheese shop and most grocery stores in NYC sell comte, including food town.

I haven't had good luck with cheese at Food Town. It always tastes like it has been frozen and defrosted several times.

I go to Despana fairly frequently for cheese. The selection is really good and the prices are stupidly low, but I'm looking forward to another place that isn't limited to Spanish cheeses.

Im excited about a new cheese shop and hope they succeed. I think they will be selling quality foods to go with the cheese.
Considering we leave in the cheap chicken capital of Queens I think any different addition to the hood should be applauded.

Thank you. I wonder if they also carry Raclette. I don't travel north to shop; my routine is always south but I'll have to check it out.

Key Food Fresh at 46th and Queens Blvd. has an awesome cheese section. Key def buys these imports, but not all Keys sell them. Not to be found at Key on 90th off Roosie. Maybe different franchisees.

Finally made a right turn to Key Food on Northern & 86th. No French imports in the cheese section, not today anyway. At least four Greek cheeses though, a Spanish one or two, and the usual Dutch and Italian.

Looking forward to Stand Alone Cheese opening.

they've put up a fresh awning and they had the blinds open today....it doesn't look radically different in terms of layout, but i think the shelving along the wall (for non refrigerated items) is new. so it looks like it won't be too long.....

Nice try, but your vegan propaganda is incorrect.

The cheese industry in the US has increased in value by 10.7% over the last 5 years and is only getting stronger now that low-carb/keto diets are becoming more mainstream. Milk is becoming less popular, but the cheese industry has not been affected by the population's interest in decreasing dairy consumption.

Seems like they might be opening this Saturday! I hope that they sell lots of different things
and as has been mentioned, that they dovetail nicely with Table Wine in a being a destination
for informed sales help from knowledgeable owners.

Really looking forward to this one...

the gentleman at Table Wine said they're likely to be working together. in fact, he's the one who encouraged the new proprietor to take a shot with the space. looking forward to it!

Stopped by today, it seems they will carry Fulvi a very nice Pecorino Romano that is made near Rome and not too salty.  It is what we use to make Cacio-e-Pepe!  This is very good news!
