Big Jump project Bike Meeting this Wednesday April 25!

Big Jump Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting

Date: Wednesday, April 25, 2018
Time: 6:30 PM -8:30 PM
Location: Elmhurst Hospital, 79-01 Broadway Ave,
Room A1-22, 1st Floor, Elmhurst, Queens, NY

NYC DOT will hold the second Community Advisory Committee meeting for Big Jump and we are inviting local residents, community organizations, city agencies, and elected officials to discuss next steps for this project and provide updates on where we are.

The Big Jump is a three-year sustained community engagement and planning project with the goals of creating a low-stress bicycle network, improving community outreach, and increasing bicycle ridership in these target neighborhoods. You will hear about bicycle rides, bike related events, programs and important meetings happening in your neighborhood!

Just to bring this to the top. This is tonight. If you'd like to see better bike infrastructure and give your input on how a bike network could be laid out in our area, you want to be in this meeting.

The meeting was really good last night.  Just some follow up:

DOT is issuing an online newlsetter with all the latest on the Big Jump, so if you are interested in updates on upcoming rides, workshops, learning to ride events, giveaways, etc. please go sign up to receive it.

Here's some of the upcoming events to get you started:

Bike New York Education & Safety Classes
Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes and encourages bicycling and bicycle safety through education, community outreach and events. They offer free bike education programs throughout the five boroughs, teaching kids and adults how to ride a bike, and how to do so safely and confidently in the city.

Make Queens Safer Bike Ride
A series of bike rides will be led throughout the Big Jump project neighborhoods and beyond! More details to come. Email makequeenssafer@gmail.com if you have any questions.   

Event: Ride Around Flushing-Kissena Corridor
Date: Sunday, May 20, 2018
Time: TBD
Location: FMCP to Kissena Park along the Flushing-Kissena Corridor
Description: Ride around Flushing-Kissena Corridor. This will be about a 6 miles ride through Flushing Meadows Corona Park and on to the Kissena Corridor, a lovely off road green connector for FMCP and Kissena Park.

Pedal For Parks 2018 

Event: Pedal for Parks hosted by The Friends of Astoria Heights Park
Date: Saturday, May 12, 2018
Time: 9:45AM – 12:30PM
Location: Astoria Heights Playground, 45th Street and 30th Rd, Queens, NY to Paul Raimonda Park, 47th St and 20th Ave, Queens, NY
Description: The Friends of Astoria Heights Park is hosting its second Pedal for Parks event. Riders will leave from Astoria Heights Park at 10:15AM and end at Paul Raimonda Park in Queens. The event will culminate with treats, give aways, a Learn to Ride event (which begins at 11AM & pre registration reccommended for this via Parks Department), information and giveaways.
