Haven't really been to this plaza much other than the few times I've taken the train into the city. On my most recent travels I walked by to find a filthy plaza laden with cigarette buds, spit,  and trash.  The "file cabinet" guy has taken up residence there as well. Apparently multiple complaints to Dromm, 311 and CB 3 have gone ignored...business as usual.  I guess when there are community celebrations it is utilized,  but to me it is  a 6 million dollar trash bin.  High expectations equated to a big loss.  The money could have been better put to use...like increased sanitation and enforcement of illegal vendors.

the rest of the neighborhood is enjoying it, especially on nice days like this one.  you're not. maybe you can find a place that's more appealing to you. i wish you luck.

Yes..of course,  there is the new park which is really enjoyable and blessedly, so far, clean of cigarette buds and saliva. .  As a pathway to the subway...I still "UGGHH".  I also noticed that during the times I pass through there are 99% of men hanging around.  I rarely see families.

Maybe visit more than twice before coming here to bitch about it? That way you would have an informed opinion instead of just sounding like a crank.

I am there twice a day, every day. I think it's a nice gathering spot, much better than what was there before (honking double parked cars), and a decent addition to the area.

^^I really wouldn't be shocked that there were no families there during those times. School aged kids are in school in the afternoons, and usually having dinner/doing school work in the evenings.

That being said, who actually expects families to spend time at Diversity Plaza? People with kids that need to be escorted to parks are looking for playgrounds. Young kids need a certain amount of physical activity daily for their physical development, and Diversity Plaza is not the place to go for that. It's a place to take a load off in a shopping area, and a spot near a transit hub where you can meet someone. I don't see a lack of families in Diversity Plaza as an indication of anything other than, well, that's not what it's designed for.

I have been there many times. It is filthy, and was a complete waste of money. Getting rid of honking cars should not have cost millions of dollars. What is decent about it now? no curb? cheap folding chairs that were probably costly? Two barricades for several thousand dollars would have been effective.

The same goes for the wild spending at Travers park. Now several people want to buy a car dealership to get rid of some cars.

I hear nothing constructive, like building a large multi-story parking facility which the neighborhood actually needs. Or, spending some real money on an underground parking facility. Then, we could have some car free streets, which is another topic.

The days of private cars ruling the streets are over. Robert Moses is dead.

It is not going to be over if the local governments do not pay for decent infrastructure, like, light rail vehicles, similar to the trollies system that Queens had in the 1940's, and upgraded subways. Making transportation pleasant and easy to use will encourage people to use it.
