dr. Riehle only at 71 St and 35th Avenue.  Dr. Smith at Astoria for cats, Dr. Kamer at Astoria for dogs.  Don't know anything about Dr. Tselos

Yeah, I've taken my cat to the the vet on 35th and 71st a few times, and I have been very satisfied.  I'm lucky that he is such a healthy cat, and we've had very few issues or problems, which is why we have only been there a few times!

I'm still searching for a good local veterinarian. Have one you like in the area? I tried the one on 35th between 71 and 72nd (or, at least, I think that's the block) and wasn't really keen on the care there. So, I'm on the hunt for a new one...especially one that's good with, how to put this, handling mean old cats with severe attitude problems.

I've taken a cat to Heights Vet. Hospital in the past and now take my toy poodle.  I guess everyone has a different experience because - so far - I've been happy with them. They came highly recommended to me by a close friend who used to be a Vet Tech and worked with Dr. Riehle and Dr. Ackerman (who has since retired).

I have to say I haven't had any serious issues re: my pets health, so my visits are fairly routine.  But what I like about them is the following:
1.  You don't need an appointment unless you're scheduling surgery in advance.
2.  The older guy who works the front desk part time, Frank, is a doll.
3.  Dr. Riehle and Dr. Alvarez have both seen me and my pets for no charge.  While I've been there, I've also seen them see other people and their pets and not charge them.  I spoke to them about it cuz I wanted to make sure they weren't going to go out of business!!! They laughed.
4.  They're not greedy.  They're just nice guys maybe without  the warmest bedside manners but I like them.

My other friends take their dog to Noah's Ark.  I think they're happy with that place.  I've never been inside.

I have had several bad experiences with the Animal Clinic on 71st Street, and would never recommend it to any pet owner.  I strongly feel that I cannot post my comments on this open forum though.  If you would like more information on my experiences, please feel free to message me.

Yes, I go there, too. But they don't treat my darling kitty like the royal highness that she is. They treat her like she's a toaster oven in for repair. Anyone know a vet in the neighborhood who has compassion for animals and treats them like the hairy little humans that they really are?

hello having had just about every pet you could imagine dog/cats/rabbits etc i've been to every \vet in the area and manhattan/woodside etc. Hts vet. hospital did a good  job on my dog saving her -but only see DR. Riley not anyone else I had the other vet tell me my dog whom was only walked on cement and never around others had fleas (he was lying) anyhow dr cesaer  tello on 85 st is a jh native and a wonderful guy very sweet but expensive i had a prescription for my dog he told me to take it to riteaid he didnt have any in his office riteaid wanted 300 dollars plus he is in basement apt with stairs etc i always hear dogs barking down there.  i havent heard anything good about the newer place on northernand 70 something. There was another vet on northern and 89 i believe- I did not like him whatsoever it appeared he was faking giving my dog a shot (im not kidding) and he was trying to have me do all  these test/etc not very friendly to me or my dog. Now for emergencies I took my catero the place across from target on qns blvd excellent quick service very expensive but it was a sun and my cat couldve died. I usually take the cat to manhattan humane society its cheaper but after my rabbit was neutered he died the same day at home.Sorry to rant!

We've tried several veterinarians in the area for our cats and we've been disappointed with their ethics. While we expect them to be profitable, we expect them to put our pets' welfare first. We finally found one we're thrilled with.  Yes, "thrilled".  Her name is Dr. Angela Orobello, and she works at:

Queens Veterinary Hospital
56-12 Roosevelt Ave., Woodside
(718) 672-9722

We've been there in the past and the service has been acceptable, but Dr. Orobello just returned from maternity leave.  We took our 14 month old cat to her this week because he was throwing up for days.  She calmed us down and advised us to wait a few more days and watch the tell-tale signs. The cat had swallowed a drawstring which was causing an obstruction, which he finally expelled. She could have suggested a dozen traumatic and expensive tests, but she didn't.  We think we found an empathetic and ethical practitioner and we will follow her wherever she practices.

 :)

I'm sure most of you have seen my post for the adoption of "Hurricane Hanna" whom we rescued.  She had a lame leg, a severe infection and was hiding under cars.  She was 8 weeks old and it was only a matter of hours before she was killed by a car.  We took her to Dr. Cesar Tello and explained the situation.  One of the tenants had generously donated $150 towards her medical care, but that wasn't enough for Dr. Tello.  For $140 we walked away with an examination and anti-biotics.  He drew blood but told us that he could only have it tested for another $70.  This was a rescue of an animal that we couldn't keep.  Surely his moral code could have made some accomodations for our rescue effort?  He said he'd hold the blood for a few days while "we raised more money". We will never go to him.

At Heights Animal Hospital on 35th and approx. 72nd Str. (I forget the address even though I go there) one time a  lady brought in a wounded animal that she found.  they not only examined it, for free, they gave her a carry case so she could travel home with the injured animal.

I think they're very nice people: Dr. Riehle and the other guy...(I'm sleepy and my brain is malfunctioning... the wine isn't helping either  :buck2: :buck2:)

TBM, have you gone there?

For the last 7 years I have taken my dog to the Animal Clinic of Long Island City on 36th Ave and 32nd St.  They are very dedicated and caring.  They work with appointments but are always willing to squeeze you in when needed.  Prices are moderate.  Service is great.  My dog, Chance, gives it two paws up!

its Dr. Alvarez at the hts vet hospital that  you should avoid I miss Dr. Ackerman. Also a few posters stated they got some free services. We had some circumstances (deaths in family) etc that they knew about and they did not cut us a break at almost $6,000+ so they never helped us in that respect and we were going there for many yrs with many pets. Im prob still paying it off my CC!

Buddy, I haven't been to Heights Vet. Hospital but I'll keep that as an option for our next, inevitable rescue.  Thanks.

I don't remember Dr. Ackerman.  I like Dr. Riehle and Alvarez is okay.  He's a bit dour some times but I've always gotten good service from both him and Doc. Riehle.  I know some posters who have had bad experiences there but I think that can be said for most vet clinics. ... good and bad experiences.  Maybe I've been lucky.  But I know I'm a pain in  the a-- cuz when I first got my dog, I went by A LOT with questions and concerns.  They were both always helpful, polite.  Many times they weighed him for me or checked his nails, showed my how to clean his ears etc. etc.   Never charged me for their time.

I like them.
