I had changed my gyms when I moved to JH from Ditmars, but recently rejoined my old gym since Planet Fitness was just not doing it for me. Coming back, I was struck again by how much I like Matrix on Ditmars and 42 in the Berry Fresh Farm shopping center. Super clean, not too crowded. Classes are included. Not nearly as expensive as the CrossFit places and what I need. If you drive, they have a garage and lot. If you bike or jog, it's really not that far - the road numbers swap around Hazen and it's not that long a trip. https://www.matrixfitnessclub.com/

Curious why there isn’t a slightly nicer gym already. Clearly blink is doing well. There’s a crowd here that will pay slightly higher prices to get a gym that is less crowded and clean.

Currently I just go to blink in Manhattan and bodhi in flushing (weekends). Though club fitness in Astoria will always have a place in my heart.

I second this. This was my gym when I lived in Sunnyside and cycling was my thing. Great cycling classes, yoga classes, and a fantastic dance class. Every weight machine imaginable plus heavy bag area. I don't know much about crossfit but I recall trainers taking people through the paces with heavy ropes, burpies, etc.

Back then the rates were very reasonable. I think the annual plan worked out to $65 a month. It's probably gone up since then. Very clean gym, too.

This looks good.....

Unfortunately there is no quick way to get there from 70s in JH. Subway doesn't go there in any reasonable way, bus is v. slow (bus+walking combo either one or two buses is 40 mins!!).
If you had a car and could park it would be good. Quicker to get to a lot of places in LIC and even UES.....

I seem to recall a a boot camp style class being given at the Old Travers Park.
Does anyone know if this is still happening?
I won’t be going to a gym anytime soon, and I need the group motivation to move!
Any info on any exercise classes being hosted outside would be appreciated..

I'm not sure if this is a "boot camp" style class, but Kiki Morris has run a longstanding fitness class in Travers Park.  You can check his Twitter feed for status updates: https://twitter.com/kikithetrainer

Sure there is, it's probably less than a 15 minute ride on a bicycle.

Try contacting him to find out when he plans to return to Travers Park.
