Jackson Heights Life

Who's freaking out? I see people giving their opinions about feeding birds and squirrels. A couple of comments were sarcastic, but I wouldn't call that freaking out.

I would call the attacks on the OP and the comments about how if an issue isn't as serious as slashings or other serious crimes, bringing it up warrants ridicule "freaking out." If you have a different opinion, that's fabulous for you.

I cannot understand why anybody would feed pigeons/squirrels in our neighborhood.  The leftover food creates an unsanitary condition to the extent that rats will eat the leftovers and the pigeons poop all over the place - including unsuspecting members of the community.  Moreover, after being fed by humans squirrels become more aggressive when looking for food.  I really don't understand why anybody would do this to their neighbors.

As a former dog-walker in  J.H., I can attest to the fact that the garbage slobby humans throw in the street far outweighs anything left behind by bird/squirrel/stray cat...feeders.   Urban wildlife consume what's offered to them fairly rapidly.

I had to be constantly on the lookout for chicken parts & bones, donuts, cookies, candy pieces, sandwich-pizza-burger fragments, and pieces of just about anything human beings eat.  Otherwise, any worthy of the name would smell them from half a block away and make a mad dash towards scarfing them up.

You and I would never be in the same room socially because you are the kind of person who disregards valid concerns about safety, social policy, and the well being of Jackson Heights and respond with personal attacks.  "What the hell is wrong with you people?!?," was clearly rhetorical in nature.  The personal attacks demonstrates that you are incapable of making any argument whatsoever as to why anybody should encourage the homeless and/or vagrants from hanging around Jackson Heights - by the way I personally saw one of your buddies peeing in front of the supermarket the other day in broad day light in the presence of women and children.  In any case, I will not resort to personal attacks, but only point out the weakness in your response.

I went looking for that thread, mainly because I wanted to know who said what. (I didn't think you were the writer of that last paragraph, but I figured I should confirm what I was assuming.) I read the whole thing--it was very enlightening.

People also carry diseases 

I agree they only need to be fed when their is snow on the ground.
