That's very witty! Gave me a good chuckle.

(I meant crabby appletons 'nous sommes tous arepa')

I'm looking forward to Stew's opening. Also to the Yelp-induced schadenfreude that seems almost inevitable at this point.

Better on Yelp. The person can chose not to look at their own reviews and some of them are fairly anonymous

I'm doing a project on Jackson Heights food culture for school. The project will be a map which shows the diversity of food and culture in our beautiful neighborhood. Does anybody have recommendations for favorite food spots they would like to be included? Eventually this will turn into a blog which tells the stories of local business owners (hopefully!!). Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

I think you've all succeeded in scaring the living daylights out of this poor girl.

Hi HFM,

Sorry that you think it is a "bad move" for me to suggest that Arrepa Lady is about media hype and that what she is selling is unhealthy, greasy, junk food, and a third rate version of a good crepe, which is what it is.

I was responding to the original question, and strongly recommended Saw Shack, with which you may or may not agree, serves much better food.

P.S. Why is it a "bad move" for me to express my view on this?

Express you may, but attacking a hard working family who created a great business that has appealed to the taste buds and hearts of many in and out of this neighborhood is not the right move. Many others and I, including those from out of town and friends who have not been to JH before love the food, the space, the service and the reasonable prices. As another poster said, its not meant to be a health food paradise by any means.

Your posts have constantly come off as arrogant and condescending ever since you began touting your restaurant. Great way to gain rapport with the vast majority of the neighborhood. Perhaps you should cut your losses and try to open up in Brooklyn or some other gentrified part of NYC. I for one, will tell anyone who is curious about it how pompous, egotistic and patronizing you have been throughout.

People like you are what are ruining this city one snooty artisanal overpriced cafe or bistro at a time. This is one of the few remaining neighborhoods in NYC that still retains an authentic feel. Good for the community board to stall your gentrification project.

ooh this is fun.

Here's my theory, unable to resist commenting on this thread, 'Redge', the Two Bird investor, waited for the opportune moment (I'm imagining when Stew went out to take a break from the renovations to smoke a Gauloises) to hijack Stew's phone and post further condemning remarks about other Jackson Heights establishments.

Urubamba on 87th & 37th for Peruvian

Lali Guras on 76th & 37th Rd and Dhaulagiri on 72nd & Broadway for Nepali

Kababish for Pakistani and Indian on 72nd & Broadway

Technically not Jackson Heights, but close by are some good Filipino places, House of Inasal on 65th and Roosevelt in particular.

Stew, I'm genuinely excited about your restaurant, but you should really have someone more diplomatic handling your social media, and possibly your dealings with the community board. I get that you're frustrated, but putting down others is not a way to get ahead. Whether you've intended to or not, you've been alienating allies left and right.

Ditto to being excited about and welcoming to the new restaurant and also to Crabby's suggestion for more diplomacy in communications.

I'm often surprised at how (and why), within a few posts, mild disagreement on this forum can turn to downright nastiness.  If you feel someone has behaved badly, does that mean you have to go there too?
(My two-cents' worth - OK bring it!!)

Madalyn it is quite obvious from your past post concerning Stew you're having a "love fest" with this guy.  There's no doubt about it Stew is a pompous blow hard that has not proven himself in the restaurant business but has no problem slamming others.  With all his arrogance let's see if he he'll make the 10% after his two year
mark.  Now I must head out for some fabulous arepa!  Ciao!

Madalyn, Stew called the food served at another Jackson Heights restaurant "garbage.". He then said the " over-hyped" restaurants of our community serve "cheap meat and cheap starches on even cheaper plates.".
That's hardly a " mild " disagreement.

I like Mustang Thakali Kitchen on on 37th Avenue between 74th and 75th.

In the "small world" category, I was in California a few months ago and was chatting with a Nepalese man who lived there. When he heard I lived in Jackson Heights, NY he got all excited because it turned out his good friend from Nepal owns that very restaurant. I think they went to college together.

Your map and the premise of your blog sounds great and it reminded me I bet he's got an interesting tale to tell, and I'm sure many others do as well.  Good luck and please keep us posted as it develops.
