It's just a fact that what Arrepa Lady is selling makes McDonalds look like health food.

The media hype around Areppa Lady is entirely about ignoring this.

This is heart attack stuff, and garbage as food.

God forbid that a Jackson Heights resident should say something so patently obvious.

If you could possibly spell Arepa correctly perhaps you could add it to your menu (whenever we can use one and order food..) and make a healthy one. Go for it. Compete.

Apparently you are unaware of the fact that there is not a single way to spell the word, and as a consequence make an erroneous - and more importantly pointless - correction.

As for the rest of your post, I won't be doing delivery/take out.

A fact means it's been proven. At this point it's your opinion. The two are not the same.  Was a study done on the Arepa Lady that i don't know about? Or is this conjecture based on what you saw or the one time you ate there?

There are a lot of things out there that are bad for people, and unhealthy, however, that may also depend on the person's health.  The media dealing with the food/restaurant  reviews isn't about educating people on healthy eating, it's about the taste.

Hi HFM,

Sorry that you think it is a "bad move" for me to suggest that Arrepa Lady is about media hype and that what she is selling is unhealthy, greasy, junk food, and a third rate version of a good crepe, which is what it is.

I was responding to the original question, and strongly recommended Saw Shack, with which you may or may not agree, serves much better food.

P.S. Why is it a "bad move" for me to express my view on this?

Because you come off sounding hypercritical. I could understand if you just stated that you don't prefer her food and made into a personal statement. You basically went into a diatribe about her food and even her story.  I think that a lot of people here like her this may not be the best way to attract customers.

Actually, it comes off more like sour grapes.

I don't eat at the Arepa Lady often, but I enjoy it very much when I do. As have several friends and family members I've taken there. Regardless of any media coverage, they are very warm and welcoming, and family friendly.

I vote for "all of the above".

An arepa is not a crepe and I don't understand why they are being compared.

Yes, it's not exactly healthy, but it's not for every day eating. And it's no less healthy than the goose-fat laden, sodium-heavy dishes found in French restaurants.

Stew, I'm genuinely excited about your restaurant, but you should really have someone more diplomatic handling your social media, and possibly your dealings with the community board. I get that you're frustrated, but putting down others is not a way to get ahead. Whether you've intended to or not, you've been alienating allies left and right.

First Stew went after the community board, and I said nothing.
Because I'm not a member of the community board.

Then he went after the department of health, and I said nothing.
Because I am not on the department of health.

Then he went after the Arepa Lady, and I said nothing.
Because I am not an arepa.

Then he came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.

and we're back to the pompous bloviating that got his "investor" booted from these environs. Stew, you are NOT the only person here who knows haute cuisine. You're not the only person here who's traveled around the world. Youy ARE the only person here who's delusional enough to think that you're the only one who knows what constitutes a tasty, interesting, good meal.

there are bullshit artists serving garbage for three figure tariffs all over this town. there's crap to be had for three bucks.

Piedad serves up a delicious specialty. she does it very well. is it the best arepa in the world? no. is it the best in new york city? i think so. your sound and fury signifies nothing.

and don't tell me your restaurant is not for me. you don't get to make that decision, sugar.

I'm beginning to think that Stew is a performance artist.  That's about the only explanation I can come up with.

I know how shocked I was when I walked into a place called "The Arepa Lady" and there wasn't a single organic kale salad with heirloom tomato, julienned imported baby carrot and reduced-fat vinaigrette.

I'm looking forward to Stew's opening. Also to the Yelp-induced schadenfreude that seems almost inevitable at this point.

i hope his restaurant is good. and if it's good, i hope it's successful. i recognize that ego is often part of the package with talented people, and i'm hoping this restaurant reflects the talent he touts.
