Ashoka has just closed down, and it's now "Tandoori Palace". The yelp list has to be updated, the Indian buffet list is currently:

Pakora
Jackson Diner
Delhi Palace
Indian Taj
Al-Naimat
Kabab King (upstairs)
Maharaja(?)

I don't know if I'm missing any on 73rd St.
I've been to all but Maharaja, Pakora and Indian Taj, and find myself constantly returning to Delhi Palace.

Jeff just emailed me.  He narrowed it down to Delhi Palace or Al-Naimat.  He said Al-Naimat looked a little risky cuz he thinks they specialize in sweets and we're looking for lunch.  So we picked Delhi Palace unless anyone else has another suggestion.

If no other suggestions, then this Thursday, 1pm at Delhi Palace.  PM me if you want to exchange cell phone numbers.

I want to try Delhi Palace and I will happily go there Thursday, but are we sure they have a buffet? Call me crazy, but I suspect we may be having a full-service sit-down dinner whether we like it or not (which would probably be better for my low-carbohydrate diet anyway). And by the way, Maharaja also “specialize(s) in sweets” because they have the exact same set-up as al-Naimat: sweets in the front, buffet and tables in the rear.

well, if you live here you can go anytime you want. the more you go the more you will learn about it.

I am pretty sure delhi palace has buffet that day. I think nearly all have them every day for lunch. it seems like only kebab king is shady with closing their buffet area. I mean, theres signs out front saying buffet...
I went to al-naimet today. I thought it was really good. there werent many people in there though unfortunately. there were some great items and some not as good. but i was really happy. the biryani rocked and i had some new things. they are pakistani for the most part.

i think there might be a science to buffet eating. like 1pm is probably the best time to go. freshest stuff.

I’ll be there, and yes I’ll definitely be wearing something. You can see a picture of me on my MySpace profile. I can understand why you may not have seen the link. It’s only in every post I make. (I can also be seen in the middle of this picture.) And please call me Mark (or Mosheh). Even my own mother doesn’t call me Elyaqim, and it was her father’s name.

Excellent photo Mark.  I'm skipping dinner tonight to save myself for lunch tomorrow. Jeff's already told me he's going to be in his usual mode of pigging out.

yt28 I don't always have time off during the day since my work schedule always changes but I'd love to have lunch get togethers when I am available.  Let you know how it goes.  BTW Jackson Diner also has, I think, the masala dosa at buffet too. It's that large crepe with the stuffing that's yummy???

Sorry about your tummy.  Indian food is NOT the food to eat in that case.  Some home made chicken soup and crackers, would be my first choice.

We'll try to do it again since Jeff said he wants to eat at all the buffets and I don't go back to work, full time, until mid-Sept. 

So it looks like it'll be just Jeff and me stuffing our faces, in the name of science.

I went to a place around the corner from spicy mina, hyberdarabi - something liket that. it was really good! I walked in spicy mina and walked out. something turned me off. ill have to try it, but you have to try hyberdarabi(?)
